Will new horizons become the same as those we left behind?
Is human heaven out here somewhere?
Friends, looking at the dire situation that exists on Earth, I am no longer convinced that there is much chance of ever achieving peace. The problem is that there are too many psychotic rich and powerful people who are running the show to suit themselves and billions of people who are happy to let them as long as they have access to television, beer in the refrigerator, and drugs under their mattress.
There is only one solution! We, who make up a tiny minority of aware, visionary, caring, sharing, thinking people need to take off for another planet and start a Brave New World somewhere else, preferably in a place that will not be affected by nuclear radiation from Earth.
Of course, when we get to this new location, the question must be asked whether or not, in a century or a millennium, we would end up with the same situation that applies in this rather shabby and very conflicted Garden of Eden?
In other words, will we just take our earthly problems with us and eventually destroy our new location and ourselves? Are humans destroyers of everything they touch, no more than greedy, violent two-legged animals that have a brain that is deeply flawed, one that destines us for eventual extinction?
So the rocket is on the tarmac and the countdown has begun. Do you want to climb on board or not? Do you think that we could make a better world if we started with a group of decent folk, say one hundred, who are not entirely contaminated by the world we live in? Do the folk who decide to go need to be de-indoctrinated before they depart, purged of all the Earthly B.S. that fills their minds? Is this possible?
Think hard, friends! In reflecting about these questions and forming opinions which will hopefully create interesting debate, much will be revealed.
Take care you all!
those who dream of the joys of living in a space colony should live in a space colony. high technology and science has taught my one great service the delight of performing simple and primordial tasks, chopping wood ,building a fire ,and growing vegetables.klaus

Hopefully, in another universe, these things would be part of human activity instead of war and destruction, Klaus!

Greets David and all.
If travelling via self sustaining space ship then we need consider it impossible lest we develop a solution to radiation toxicity. http://xkcd.com/radiation/
8 sv, the chart says is fatal. Sun flare events I’ve read of can be around 6sv or more. NASA use gold to help protect equipment and a lot of CPU hardening as fail over engineering whilst timing missions best they can between solar events.
First we need to design and build a de-rad device on earth so we can actually travel in space and live with radiation on other worlds. Solve our desperate radiation pollution problems on earth and we solve one of our biggest obstacles in going anywhere outside mother earth.
It took our species less than 100 years to send this world critical, we can’t do that again elsewhere. So, learn to treat mother earth with some respect and we will do the same where ever we go.
I figure we need another 100 years to clean the place up. By then we may not need a space ship at all. When I were a kid a Proton was a Proton. Now we’ve learned a Proton is many parts, 6.6.4 Quark arrangement. Quantum Physics gets even more intriguing, linked below. Do not know if SBS broadcast offshore but I found it thought churning program.

We’re so much more advanced as a species, a new “habitat” could be rendered completely uninhabitable in a fraction of the time it took to ruin this dilapidated old rock. And just think of the joy we could spread throughout the universe. Maybe we could spread out, and deliver our special brand of “life” to many pristine planets in need of an atmospheric makeover.
Or we could just stay here and kill each other.

As long as we don’t take the psychopaths with us to the new world, we might have a chance. Natural leaders who lead by example, not the pushy do as I say , not as I do leaders. As long as we don’t all start following the one who says that God talked to him. Gryph is right about solving our radiation problem. Seems like it could help us all around to solve that one. I say leave our guns behind if we are to start fresh. Are aliens as dangerous as governments on Earth? Probably not.

I used to think how good it would be if we could fire off all the people who trashed this planet to another planet but thinking about it, why should we have to stay here in the pollution and mess, let them stay here and we will all go off to a pristine new planet.

Thank you for links miki, Sierra.
Our off world experience wont have unemployed because like life on earth there is always work to be done. Forcing a mandatory 5% into unemployment just to keep wages down will not be required. Vilifying that 5% wont happen. No currency will be required. All resources and leisure would be a shared responsibility. Every one gets play time to refresh, every one is important in the collective. Every good works done will benefit all.
Should a pin hole event strike our space ship we don’t create a pin hole economy nor do we create an administration for pin hole development and community relations dept, we just fix the problem.
Miki. I feel for you muchly. My folks got us out of the UK mid 60′s. My Dad was RAF, had seen much of the world and decided OZ had some future for his family. Now it’s all catching up with us in OZ big time. No where left to run we have to fight back now.
klaus, we need you on this adventure. Lucy we will need you also. We clean up space ship planet earth first then if yah like come along for the journey.
No guns. If we are not welcome at a new location we take the hint and move on.

David you ask : Of course, when we get to this new location, the question must be asked whether or not, in a century or a millennium, we would end up with the same situation that applies in this rather shabby and very conflicted Garden of Eden?
Some men and women went to a new location decades ago, they followed Mother in her dreams of creating a new place that the world desperately needed. Mother called this place Auroville, The City of Dawn(dawn of a true humanity?). They wanted to turn their back to this crazy, violent, unjust world. Decades later : Auroville is just what the rest of the world is, they have ended up doing once what put them off. So much so that I finally said that Auroville was a city the world didn’t need because the world is already full of them. So my guess is it would not take long for the ones reaching another “Gaia” to come to the same dire situation we have been living in for too long. I go as far as doubting that a mega detox would do us any good.
Take care all of you, Laurent.
