The Sublime And The Ridiculous!

A Libyan rebel showing sublime enthusiasm for freedom.

Gaddafi arriving in his golf cart to speak to his enraptured followers.

But he still has time to give an interview to Christiane Amanpour.

Friends, what is being played out in Libya moves between farce and tragedy. The leader of Libya, Gadaffi, who denies being its leader, is doing his best to remain in power by claiming that all Libyans love him. One admirer has even brought flowers for him.

Those who don’t love him, the ones controlling much of the east of Libya, have been given drugs by Al Qaeda  which has made them crazy Gadaffi  claims. Currently he is sending his army to confront them, an army, in part, made up of mercenaries from other nations who don’t have any tribal loyalties and will kill on command. He has dropped bombs it seems to frighten the rebels into loving him again once the drugs have worn off.

While all this is happening, America is moving even more warships into the oil-rich region making an attack of some kind more a probability than a possibility. America is also consulting widely with those who support its warmongering so what the outcome will be is unknown but fairly predictable.

And when he’s not making speeches or ordering his air force to frighten the rebels, Gadaffi’s giving interviews to famous people dressed in his clown outfit. How they can keep a straight face is unknown.

Now, what’s happening in Libya might make you laugh but it’s really not funny. What could happen here has serious implication because Gadaffi is an important person to nations on the African continent.

He has given lots of money to various States and has encouraged Africa to resist continuing American and European colonialism and exploitation which has won him many admirers. That would make him a target for many white nations who don’t want anyone else to pull the strings but them.

Gadaffi is also a favorite of Chavez who is against U.S. imperialism and domination and is one of the main anti-American agitators in South America. As you can see, the situation in Libya is perhaps more complex than it may first appear. And where it could lead, given the spirit of rebellion that is sweeping the region, is worrisome.

Will it lead to a showdown? Will he Arab Nations push America and Europe out? Will America use its invade and occupy routine? What will Israel do now the status quo is disintegrating? What will Russia and China do to ensure they’re not shut out of the oil-rich region? Is WW3 just around the corner?

The answer is: no one knows!

Stay tuned.

  1. Everything seems to be coming apart. The rightwing government in the US, state and federal, are doing everything they can to make life worse for the majority of the people, those people are now rising up and fighting back which causes governments to behave even more violently. All of that affects the price of oil which, of course, afffects the price of everything else which then causes more tension forcing people to demand changes which governments resist etc.

The sane, stable world I knew for so many years is crumbling under my feet and I see no way for things to go back to normal. People and governments are angry and frightened and desperate now just trying to survive, some fighting for justice and fairness against too many trying to keep all their wealth and power for themselves.

The chinese curse seems to fit about now. “May you live in interesting times.”

  2. We never seem to learn, never. Our demise is inevitable unless the peoples of the world can rise up and take back their countries – but, first we need to mind our own business and not the business of other countries. It’s amazing, if dictator’s go against what Wall Street and the wealthy elite then they are terrorists – it just automatic. The right-wing, flag waving, Tea Bagger’s are so uninformed they just don’t see it. If you are a right-wing, christian fundamentalist, flag waving tea bagger, please educate yourself and discover the real America – the real World Order dictates.

  3. Funny how Gadaffi uses Al Qaeda as his scapegoat. I wonder who gave him that idea…

    Indeed, Late Revolution.

From what I can tell, there is a genuine uprising of the people against Gaddafi. The people at the borders that he is killing are black workers from other parts of Africa trying to escape and these are massacres. He is shooting at his own people, but they are holding his forces back and he is not advertising this fact. In fact, the people are very close to overtaking their own Country. A Libya for Libyans. BUT Not if the (expletive) Armada gets there first!!!!!!

Contained, Nowayout. I can swear like a sailor and in print it, I have regretted it. I can’t promise I won’t ever swear, but after I type, I hope I will take a breath and see if there are any better words to speak to strangers with. In fact I did swear and then switched it out with expletive. I don’t want to stop anyone from speaking authentically, because that is very important. A poster named Phill used to talk like a sailor because He WAS a sailor. Maybe he didn’t know how to tone it down. Important thing is to thine own self be true.

  4. Well, it’s obvious. The USA has hated Libya for decades as evidenced by the moratoriums and sanctions levied there from time to time, so now they will likely react (unfavorably) as predicted. Gaddafi and Chavez are to be celebrated for their defiance of the Imperial Agenda of the USA. Too bad that yet another chunk of the world falls – predictably from the trumpeting of the Empire – and the attack fleet is already thundering to its position…

  5. We love war. We love killing innocent’s, we love torture, we love cluster bombs, we love depleted uranium munitions, we love white phosphor, we love Monsanto, we love having the highest prison population of the free world, we love supplying guns to Mexican drug cartels,
So, what’s not to love about us?

  6. The Sublime: to elevate or exalt especially in dignity or honor: The Armada coming
is elevating Gaddafi, “I am Armada worthy!” Plus and more importantly it will save him the shame of being militarily overtaken by his own people. Hillary may turn out to be a good friend yet. This move is soooo advantageous to Israel/US – you know its gotta pay and maybe the Ridiculous is a medicated swan song…

I am confused now with his friendship with Chavez. Theirs’ was a strong bond, but Gaddafi made deals with bad people and didn’t do right by his people, unlike Chavez. So, I am wondering how much they would still have in common in 2011.
