Hopping Bear?
Friends, I may be the first person in the world to have noticed this but it is obvious to me that a great calamity has befallen the U.S., the former leader of the Free World and Ex-Champion of Democracy.
It may have been those pesky Russians who released a virus but I believe it’s more likely that it arose from a cursed potion that the Red Indians created while, long ago, they were being slaughtered by the white, Christian invaders from Europe.
Powerless against the guns the bloodthirsty hordes brought with them, perhaps the Sioux or the Cheyenne asked their most powerful medicine man to create a sickness that would render the white man brainless, impotent, a joke.
So, Hopping Bear (or an equivalent), went deep into the forest and gathered some magic herbs and some poisonous roots. Deep in the recesses of his smoke-filled wigwam, he worked hard and prayed to the Great Spirit for guidance and help.
After several days, he eventually created a black potion that was applied to the heads of some white prisoners who were then released and given safe passage back to their evil kind. “This will be heap bad medicine for the men who have white skins and black spirits,” Hopping Bear promised. “It will make them crazy like grasshopper and fat like slug!”
A few days later, the army came in and killed every man, woman and child in the tribe. Hopping Bear died slowly from a sword wound but he had a smile on his lips which mystified the troops.
But, unfortunately for the Indians, the potion was slow-acting and it took several centuries for it to take effect on the white population at large.
But now it is widespread. In fact, almost 99% of Americans are infected. What are its symptoms, you ask? Well, the most serious one is the malfunction of the brain. It actually stops working. This has resulted in most Americans being unaware of what is happening to them. Their brains seem frozen along with their consciences.
Their corrupt, warmongering Government is rampaging around the world killing and raping and pillaging but they don’t even notice. The oligarchs within their nation are ripping them off unmercifully but do they care? Not one bit. Most of the world hates them and their country but they pretend not to notice.
Their political system is totally corrupt but what the hell? They are losing their freedoms and rights daily but they just shrug their shoulders and sing: God Bless America. Their country is bankrupt but does that stir them into action? No way!
It seems the malady also leads to a serious lethargy. It is all they can do to make it from the television to the beer fridge and back. Being an obese couch potato is the major aspiration of most American citizens, it seems.
Yes, friends, Hopping Bear has had his revenge in spades. His ghost, and the ghosts of millions of his brothers and sisters, must be hugely pleased at what is happening to the white invaders who brought nothing but calamity and cruelty and death.
And soon, another superior civilization will arise and America will disappear and its citizens will experience what the Indians did and, during the inevitable genocide, they will come to know what being invaded and slaughtered is all about and they will regret what their ancestors did to the Red Indians and to the people of many other nations in the world!
“Forgive us,” they will cry but their words will fall upon deaf ears.

It was not so much a theory, Coco, as an attempt to nudge some Americans into action (members of this blog excluded of course). Thanks for the link!

Well sir, if that story you relate her has any truth to it, then the “Red Indians” have surely had their revenge. Good for them. My family can only trace is time in America back to the 1870′s when the first of them left Germany to come here.
Funny, I remember wanting the “Indians” to win in those old “western” movies of my youth. Unfortunately, it took my own experiences as a US Marine in Vietnam to really awaken me to truth. Religion and “Western” thought(?) are among the biggest obstacles for America to overcome. I doubt that will happen. Not enough of my fellow citizens seem to even use their brains now days. Fat, lazy, and supposedly happy seems to describe the most of them. They fail to see how their government is taking away their rights. They seem to cheer as the COnstitution is shredded. The demand “security” even as their freedoms are greatly reduced. Sad does not even begin to describe them.
Ben Franklin supposedly said that those who give up freedom for security deserve neither. I agree.

Who would know, 76-water. There’s so much poison in the air, soil and the water that we have little real idea of how contaminated we might be. Then there’s the mental contamination which we get exposed to from birth.
It’s a wonder we don’t just explode!

That term Red Indian is horrible. I totally agree with your angle, but let’s give the surviving Natives of the Americas the legitimacy that they duly deserve. There are real Indians (Asians) and there are indigenous Americans. It has been fully de-bunked that Columbus did not actually land in Asia, but in America (for lack of a better term). Your essay is right on and something I’ve always considered true : that the horror that is/was the invasion of the Americas and subsequent foreign subjugation and settlement invoked a lingering curse on the invader. The Ghostdance is coming to fruition!!

Thanks for calling by, Megothia! I’m sorry you didn’t like the term ‘Red Indian’ but, as an Australian, I thought it might be better understood by most people rather than ‘indigenous Americans’ which sadly the world has largely forgotten with a bit of help from the ‘invading Americans’.

The US has been infected with that malady ever since it was founded… So if you normal, peaceful individuals that in spite of all the ever on-going, sick war propaganda still exist within the borders of the empire, want to achieve anything of all that you seem to be dreaming of, you must first see your rapacious empire cease to exist. Your empire cannot be changed. No empires can. They are, have always been and will always be the same sort of hungry predators than yours. Get rid of the disgusting monster!

I just got here from Democratic Underground, seems like a great site, too bad it isn’t more universally responded to. I wish I had found it long ago. I’m betting you have many reader’s but the intellectual ability of your responders intimidates many due to their intelligent responses. Me included!!
However if the Europeans would not have invaded would the Indians still be forest/plains dwellers like some African tribes or South American natives, do you think would they have progressed or is that a bad term??

Welcome, Allen. I don’t think the indigenous Americans progressed after the White Man invaded their country. What was done to the Indians is now being done to the people of many other nations!

The indigenous people of North America were quite developed and progressive. They lived in harmony with the land and resources available. They stored and traded food. They had practical and beautiful artful weaving. They taught one another. They were large, healthy people. Importantly, they taught the puny, sickly Europeans how to survive in the “new land.”
We all know how the rude Euros repaid the favor. A favor they keep on repaying to poor people, countries everywhere because it worked so well here. The Native people that are still here, still struggle from the effects of genocide. Ultimately, the spirit of The People, is connected to the Earth, herself. There is much healing in opening oneself to the gift that exists.

Grace, slaughtering people is a sign that a ‘civilization’ is primitive and venal, that it has no real values.
The U.S. is an anachronism. It doesn’t belong in our world! If the U.S. didn’t exist we would have a better chance of achieving a peaceful world.
