Friends, Al Jazeera this morning had a little item that, to me, seemed to have very big import.
The article stated that the International Criminal Court (ICC) had passed a resolution that made waging war a crime. Yes, you read it right, waging war is to be considered by the ICC, a crime!
According to Al Jazeera, “ the resolution, which was carried by the 111 member states of the ICC (State Parties), in effect, criminalises the use of force (for example: blockades, invasions, bombardments) against another country in violation of the Charter of the United Nations; giving the Court the power to try future political and military leaders who plan, prepare, initiate or execute illegal wars, and to hold them (individually) criminally responsible for the commission of this new, and long-overdue, international crime.”
Of course, as you would guess, the five permanent members of the Security Council are not happy with this resolution because they ( the UK, US, Russia, China and France) want to maintain their exclusive veto control over who can decide when war is allowable.
And, of course, there are nations who are not a state party (or member) of the ICC and guess who they are: Russia, China, US, Israel, Iran are a few who are yet to become states parties.

What a nice change: an American who brings love, not war!
Friends, I just watched Oprah at a press conference prior to her giving two shows.
I must say I was very impressed with her warmth and generosity. She was also very articulate. She described her show as a ‘love-fest’ and added that, as part of her show, “If you don’t win, then I don’t win!”
What a different attitude this is to that of her Government and their flunkeys. Their attitude is that, “If we don’t win, then we’ll bomb you into submission!” This is the exact opposite of a love-fest.
It seems that of the 300 people she brought with her paying most of their expenses (they were her audience during one of her American shows), 200 had never been out of America. She said how important this was that Americans traveled (hear, hear) and that Australia would have 300 Ambassadors who would spread the good news about Down Under when they got back home.
I propose that Oprah be made President of America straight away. Let’s get rid of the whole of the greedy, brutal, corrupt, warmongering White House, the Pentagon, the Congress and the Senate and appoint Oprah and her love-fest retinue to run the U.S.
Let’s turn the U.S. into the world leader of love-fests rather than the blight on humanity that it currently is.

For those of us who live in Australia, there is a constant stream of pro-American, pro-Israeli talk from our politicians. Yet there is, in intelligence institutions (as more WikiLeak cables have revealed), unease about the behaviour or potential behaviour of both the U.S. and Israel leading to nuclear war.
In the Sydney Morning Herald today, it shows that people with intelligence themselves and with intelligence gathered about the situation in the Middle East, have real concern about what Israel may do and what the U.S. may then do to support Israel. What we are talking about is Israel nuking Iran and the U.S. jumping in to help its fanatical mate!
The SMH says, “AUSTRALIAN intelligence agencies fear that Israel might launch military strikes against Iran and that Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear capabilities could draw the US and Australia into a potential nuclear war in the Middle East.”
It goes on to say, “Australia’s top intelligence agency has also privately undercut the hardline stance towards Tehran of the United States, Israeli and Australian governments, saying that Iran’s nuclear program is intended to deter attack and that it is a mistake to regard Iran as a ”rogue state.”
Yet, our politicians, who have access to this intelligence, continue to attack Iran at every opportunity and, with broad smiles, suggest that Australia is joined at the hip to wonderful Israel and, even more so, to the glorious U.S.. But these are two of the most warmongering nations on this planet. My question is: why this huge disconnect?
Well, the U.S. is really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. According to Anti-war this morning they are looking at how to resurrect a WW1 act to try to nail Julian Assange.
Yes, folks, the revelations that Julian has released have damaged the credibility of the U.S. and exposed its lies and duplicity and it’s looking for someone to crush, just like it did in Iraq.
Of course its actions are those of a nation which thinks that it is running the world, that thinks it has the right to dictate the rules of the game even for a citizen of another country! Surprise, surprise.
Anti-war says, “The act was originally used to arrest antiwar activists during World War 1, and later to censor criticism of the war during World War 2. The court rulings at the time determined that the act could be used to restrict any political expression that the government considered a “clear and present danger.”
I’m a poor, widdle Australian fawn. Will you protect me?
Friends, as the WikiLeak cables continue to roll out, I can’t help but be disappointed by what they show about my country.
Australia, from its inception as a penal colony, was under the thumb of the British Empire. Gradually it began to emerge from British domination but it still clung to the shirts of the Brits with feverish concentration. Even today there are monarchists in this country.
Then, after WW2, when the British Empire sank into the swamp of obscurity, Australia did an about face and began to fawn to the burgeoning American Empire which modestly and incorrectly claimed it had saved the world (the Russian defeat of Germany was also important).
Following the war, we, in Australia, were told that America was the new world leader (self-appointed), that America symbolized freedom and democracy, that it was the land of milk and honey, that everyone in the world wanted to move there and live the American dream. The American dream has, during the last fifty years, become a nightmare not only for Americans but for many other nations in the world which America has attacked.
What worries me greatly, is the blind way that Australia follows America, extols its claimed successes (which, more often than not, are found to be fraudulent), embraces its culture (which comes in an endless, stifling flood through our television sets).
Why Oprah is here at the moment and you’d think the Queen of England had paid us a visit. In fact, to be truthful, Oprah got a much bigger welcome than the Queen has had for many a year when she arrived with her Flying Circus.
Friends, I know you would be as shocked as I was by the news this morning. I can still barely believe it.
Yet there he was, the President of America, the Commander in Chief with tears running down his cheek, telling the world that America is…well, let me tell the story from the beginning:
He, flanked by Gates and Clinton, began slowly, as if to soften the import of what he was going to say. They were white-faced and looked uneasy as if not knowing what to expect. “My people,” he began. “I have something to tell you and…, well sometimes the truth is not easy to say.” He stopped a moment, swallowed hard, then continued.
“I know that since you were born, you have been told certain things, things that…might not be true.” The people standing in the crowd murmured but they remained motionless. “You have been told that America is exceptional. Well, it’s not!” A few jeers broke out and a couple of people began to sing God Bless America.
“My people, hear me out. I’ve had a road to Damascus experience. It was during a meeting with my security officials…we were discussing the nuclear attack on Iran again…and, suddenly I saw an image of burning people, of people disappearing in a pink mist…children…I screamed.” Suddenly the crowd stilled as if they too saw.
“Suddenly the reality of what we were discussing struck home to me. How could we, a nation that thinks it is a Beacon on the Hill, ever contemplate such an act of barbarism. Only a nation filled by the deepest evil could entertain such a possibility.” The silence deepened and a few heads began to nod.

Revelations from WikiLeak cables released today show that several high ranking politicians have been ratting on Australia to the American Embassy in Canberra. According to the news, they have been named as Senator Mark Arbib (shown above), Bob McMulland and Michael Danby.
Now their names are not important but what they have been doing is. Arbib, for example, has been outed as a key source of intelligence on government and internal Labor party machinations to the US embassy.
Now I’m sure many Australians will be angered by Arbib’s clandestine activities but I would like to say there is a much larger issue here. How many politicians (and people from all walks of life) around the world must there be who are telling all to the American Government? How many politicians and even Public Servants who work in sensitive areas like Security and Defence are ratting on their country and what favours are they getting for their loose tongues? And what is America doing with this huge amount of intelligence which it is actively involved in soliciting and gathering?
The last question is easy to answer: the U.S. is using the intelligence to advance their unspoken imperial agenda. If they know in advance what foreign governments are thinking or planning or feeling, it makes it easy for plans to be put in place to shape things in ways that will advantage America.
Of course, it’s fair to say that most countries in the world are doing the same thing. But I’d be sure that no one is doing it on the scale that the U.S. is.
Friends, the news this morning revealed what I had been fearing. Julian Assange is in jail thanks to one of America’s many minions, the U.K. The charges seem to revolve around whether he wore a condom or not during a sexual encounter with a Swedish prostitute or whether sex was consensual with another one. Bail was refused.
Yes, the cozy little warmongering cabal of Western Nations, led by America, are outraged that anyone would reveal what they get up to. Such a person must be punished they maintain, must be closed down, must be treated like Vanunu was in Israel.
And the U.K., a once proud nation, is ever eager to do America’s bidding and who cares about the importance of telling the truth to either its citizens or those in other countries?
