Friends, ever since mankind dreamed up the many, many differing concepts of God, one God in particular, though not always obvious, has remained in the ascendancy: the God of War.
For thousands of years, men have been engaged in constant war. Some have been big and involved whole empires; some have been small and localized. Regardless, men since prehistoric times have been hacking, stabbing, spearing, clubbing and firing arrows at each other. Their battlefields have been bathed in blood while they fought over land and strategic advantage.
The advent of gunpowder quickly unleashed the power of bullets fired by muzzle loaders and cannon balls. The God of War must have smiled as his willing subjects slaved to invent ever larger cannons. Eventually rifles and machine guns made their appearance, better to gain the upper hand in the frequent contests.
Ever inventive, flight was discovered and bullets gave way to such refinements as rockets, bombs and napalm. Then we developed atomic bombs which had their nadir in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Was this the ultimate? Of course not.
We moved to missiles, depleted uranium, drones, ICBMs, to say nothing about chemical weapons, germ warfare, spy satellites, etc.
And so the story of war goes on and on. It has been never-ending and increasingly bloody. Where once it mainly involved soldiers, now it typically involves civilians as well and they are called ‘collateral damage’. Now we have nukes and the insatiable God of War awaits the final battle which, when the earth is destroyed, will prove his role as the most powerful God of all.
Of course, there is no God of War or any other god. All there is is human nature which, for most males and some females, is quite obviously predisposed to war and killing and brutality.
You all saw the U-tube video which showed the U.S. helicopter crew mowing down unarmed civilians in Iraq. You heard their excitement, even joy as they reduced the innocents to quivering, bleeding corpses. Even a good Samaritan who was trying to help the injured was fired upon.
The horrific image shown above depicts a fantasized version of the reality of war. The truth is that the fiery ugliness shown above is located within the human breast and war will never stop while humans roam the earth.
We are our own worst enemies and, eventually, we will destroy ourselves!
Those who live by the sword will die by the sword!

‘Three things for which we kill; land, women and gold’ – Punjabi Proverb
Sometimes as I read/watch the news, and the violence around the world depresses me….I think of the history of the world and how it has been carved up only through violence….No one has ever been happy to say…here have this land, or this gold or these women… We are always fighting for more…I think it all comes down to the human being and his greed…we always want more…need more…We lose any humanity in this quest for more…
I visited a convention in Kuala Lumpur not too long ago where there was an exhibition held about the war crimes being committed in Iraq & Afghanistan…the effect of depleted uranium and even the consequences of sanctions…there was also a war crimes tribunial wanting to bring Tony Blair and George Bush to trial on war crimes.. Now it was heart wrenching and quite explicit to say the least….but this soon turned into an ‘us’ and ‘them’ debate…people who believe in this God, on this side and the rest over there… I don’t know if anyone in the position of the US would have done it differently…(I will NEVER support any way)..I just wonder if humans have the capability as a whole to reject the hunger for power and to control the feeling of greed…

As long as the consciousness within the human brain understands “I AM”, there will always be “I WANT”.
Many in the world strive to rise above materialism and a desire to be greater than another, but the many lures and temptations of earth living seem at times impossible to resist or surmount.
Time heals all though, and man will either one day see the light of brotherhood and oneness or destroy himself altogether. We cannot continue down this path.
That said, it must also be said that it not ‘humanity’ but ‘governments’, the alleged representatives of humanity, which instigate these atrocities.

The picture looks like something from the video games which are so popular. While that ugliness is located inside each one of us there are people who are doing their best to bring out that ugliness especially in young men as they send them off to another immoral war.
There always appears to be someone someplace safe who benefits from feeding the god of war.

Billykat, it’s sad that humans, who also have good within them, seem to gravitate towards evil. It comes from our nature AND from our capitalist world.
Amerika, it is Governments that are responsible for most of the killing and violence but they require a plentiful supply of men who will happily go out and kill to help them achieve their objectives. The supply seems limitless.
Jeannie, when people are playing these atrocious, violent videos they become desensitized. They should be banned because they are damaging.
