Inside there was peace and harmony!
Outside there was rioting and Big Brother!
Friends, as you would be aware the G8 have just met. It turns out that much of the money that was promised to help the impoverished nations in the world at the last meeting has not been received. But the eight world leaders had a nice little meeting and were wined and dined appropriately and stayed in the most luxurious accommodation.
They did not reach any major decisions but they did argue about whether they should tackle debt or continue stimulus spending. They also strongly condemned North Korea and Iran thereby ensuring that the war drums keep beating. And they did not mention that America, in conjunction with Israel, was building a military base and airfield in Saudi Arabia close to the Iran border either.
The G20 leaders are currently in session. Their meeting, as with the other one, is progressing behind locked doors. They are guarded by many thousands of police some of whom are shown in the lower photograph. Also shown are groups of angry protesters who have set police cars and banks on fire.
It seems that many people are unhappy with the way the world is divided up into cozy little alliances between the rich countries and the way that these rich countries ensure that the rich folk in their ranks maintain or increase their privileged position and wealth.
It seems that many people are beginning to question the status quo, especially those who have no jobs or have lost their houses or are struggling to make ends meet.
These people see that they exist under a tyranny, under a capitalist system that rewards the greedy and the cunning and punishes those who can’t compete or didn’t come from privileged backgrounds.
Of course, many folks from around the world, those who are dying from starvation and preventable diseases, didn’t have the money for a plane ticket to join the protest against the elitist G8 and the G20 countries whose only interest is self-interest, that and maintaining political and economic power blocks.
Perhaps what is happening in Toronto might be a sign that the sleeping giant which is ‘the people’ is beginning to stir.
We can but hope so!

we are certainly living in ‘interesting’ times……………

I am concerned that some of the violence may have been started by wolves in sheeps clothing. We will see how this works out. Interesting times indeed.

Yeah, I understand that the police drove their cars into a group of protesters, got out and abandoned the cars, then hung around while the “news media” photographed the burning cars, before they tried to put out the flames.
Hmmmm. I wonder why?
Then they can call burning police cars “violence”, while the burning of humans is “collateral damage”.

Coco, don’t pull the plug just yet. We need you here!
The police terrorists are over-acting bigtime, 76-water. The Government is scared ‘The People’ might get ideas beyond their station.
Wagelaborer, this action by the police might be a miniature copy of the time the Israelis bombed that America warship and it was all hushed up. A burning police car gives out the message that no one is safe from the terrorists (also called protesters).

These are strange times! For me, I was the type who would be at the Protest. Now, my body can’t go and it is very confusing to sit here while this happens. If my son were older, I would let him go, but I would tell him to use ALL of his wits. Those police and their neufangled gadgets are dangerous!

That is another caraaazzy aspect of all of this violence.. Is who are the protesters? Educated young people. Educated, seasoned older people. People who know their rights. Legal human rights groups, journalists. Gee what is the message here?

Coco, there is much fear in our world. We all live with it constantly.
Grace, people know something is wrong but they are struggling to get their minds around the fact that all the institutions they were taught to revere are corrupt and self-serving.
Cheers!
