“Would I lie to you?”
Statement from the Israeli Government following the Aid Convoy kerfuffle.
Speaker: Mark Regev.
“I hope you people in the media all get the message! Israel is innocent. As usual.
Its soldiers, arriving on an early morning goodwill visit to the convoy carrying teddy bears and chocolates, were attacked, yes attacked I say, by those vicious terrorists on the Aid Convoy, all 800 of them, even the children.
The terrorists, wearing red body armor, carried flame throwers, maces, broadswords, crossbows, spears. Some were even armed with machine guns, grenade launchers, Apache helicopters, F-16s, missiles, boiling oil, scorpions, etc.
The IDF, the most moral army in the world, showing their normal restraint, tried to fight back with their bears but they were largely overcome, but not entirely. Unfortunately, 19 of the terrorists fell over and broke their necks, poor darlings, while some others, nearly 60, had heart problems or slipped discs or hernias.
Israel is innocent of any brutality. We are always innocent just like we are always victims. It’s time you got that message. I get tired of telling you all the time. And never a word of thanks.
Sure we know that the press has not yet had the chance to verify our claims because we are keeping all the activi…sorry, terrorists away from everyone for their own good. Subjecting them to the stress of journalist’s interviews is cruel after a difficult ordeal like this and, as you know, we are not devoid of compassion. Never. Ever. The fact that none of our goodwill advocates came back with any chocolate shows that.
In due course, when we have presented every excuse known to mankind and God, we will allow you to hear from the terrorists on the convoy who currently are under detention or in hospital, never you mind where. They may make some wild claims but take them with a grain of salt. Terrorists don’t always make sense, poor things. Religion does it every time, makes you crazy!
Thank you for your attention and know that Israel would never lie or tell fibs. Never, ever. We are God’s Children, you know. Shame you’re not, but life is a lottery, isn’t it?
Sorry, no questions now. I have to attend a meeting about Iran. Bears and chocolate might work there too although they might like fireworks better. Boy, have we got an amazing double-bunger that we’re bursting to show to the world!

P.S. I wrote this in an effort to lift the despair that I felt as I watched the Israelis trying to blame peace activists from around the world for Israeli atrocities carried out in International waters early this morning.
Their lies and duplicity sickened me.
With all the publicity about the Convoy never did I think the Israelis would be so stupid (or arrogant) to commit a barbaric, criminal act like this. My condolences to the families of the murdered people.
There was a report that Paul McGeough was missing, for the non Aussies he is one of the few
journalists to call it like it is. (Along with John Pilger)
A sad sad day, but a day that the Zionists will come to regret.

It is a sad day, John. When I heard the Israeli spokespersons talking tonight, protesting their innocence, telling their lies, I felt sick. These people are truly deranged!

The Israeli spokesmen are as oily as a Louisianna bayou in June. Oh, well, “America does it..” Hey and did you hear?- Israel will release the results of it’s investimigation of itself on wait for it… The 4th of July: aka American Independence (from the Brits) Day! A day where red rockets do glare. I guess I can drape myself in red that day.
If this were Somalia and the activists protecting themselves with deck chairs and sticks in the middle of the night.. in Israeli/ International waters. I guess we could change every name, by that standard. The Israeli States of America, Israel, D.C., ***Israeli wiretapping of American citizens, etc. I think the most important action now is to…call Obama and tell him NOT to fight Israel’s wars. Do Not Nuke or satandby (ooh, typo, but I will keep!) and allow thug killers to Nuke Iran. Yeah, he will really get the message when I call. What else is there?

I read that article, Grace, and it sickened me. They are truly evil people with only self-interest on their tiny, deranged minds. They don’t care who they kill and they don’t care what the world thinks. They are religious fanatics not unlike Southern Baptists!
It is a wonder that the rest of the world continues to do business with this psychologically very sick and destructive country. By doing so, any country that maintains ties with or supports Israel in any way is complicit in its inhumane and genocidal tactics towards Palestinians. Wake up, world! Break all ties and BOYCOTT Israel! It’s way past time to isolate this psychotic and very dangerous country. I am sickened by the continued hubris of Israel and its morally depraved soldiers.

well, they did say right from the start (the israelis that is) that they wouldn’t allow the flotilla in to distribute the aid…………
what they didn’t say was, they were prepared to kill/murder innocent people to achieve this end…………….

My anger at what has happened is deep. Israel is a pariah nation. It disgusts me. And now it is trying to blame its atrocity upon those in the aid convoy using lies, using spin.

David the good thing is last night thousand of people was watching the internet and they can see very clear what was really happening Regev with his predator’s face can said what ever, day by day less people believe in what they say .Israhell is very brave when it faces forces that are unarmed. I realise that one can go too far with conspiracy theories but I am fascinated by the fact that, having accessed The Guardian comment site regarding the attack on the Gaza Convoy, that it keeps dropping out. Now, it may be the fact that nearly 1600 people have commented, or rather, there are more than 1600 comments and most of them are critical of israel, but it is still interesting that SMH closed down their comments, The Age did not have the guts to allow comments and The Guardian keeps dropping out. Not that it matters. The world has changed. The power of the people exists in a way it did not before.

May we all observe a moment of silence today for the brave individuals, not just the ones that lost thier lives ( my heart goes out to thier families and friends), but also to those now imprisoned by Isreali forces. Also let us not forget the Palistinians who anxiously awaited these supplies only again to have thier hopes dashed. I am ASHAMED of my government for suppllying these terrorists with the weapons to carry out this terrible act. If the President does not strongly rebuke Isreal, well then I will know this is nonlonger the U.S.A, but the United States of Isreal. SAD, very sad!

This news is the most “shocking” and indefensible act of Israelis. They look like killers too – the way their, “body language” looked boarding the ship.
I live in a town that alot of Israelis prefer when they live in the Bay Area. Lots of Israeli schools. It is a small town too. If I go out and protest it will be considered extreme. My son goes to school with Israeli kids. I am sick and stressed, so I will meditate on this.

Catauro, sure people can see but their memories are short. In a week or so after the spin has stopped, who will remember what is now being called ‘an incident’.
Roslyn, you have raised an interesting issue, one that I’m baffled by. Why would the SMH cut comments and stop their readers reacting? The answer can’t be good for democracy.
76-water, Obama has already indicated his pro-Israel position by refusing to condemn the atrocity. By asking for the facts, it gives the Israelis time to invent them and it allows time for public anger to die down. But then we all know that Obama is a prisoner of the Jewish lobby and Jewish money!
Grace, we can’t control the world or the way people are. Speaking out when injustices occur is important but so is finding some peace for ourselves.

Regev was in full propaganda mode on Melbourne (ABC) local radio this morning, given a good go by Jon Faine.
I read Yvonne Ridley on ICH refer to him as Israel’s political Pinocchio, very apt I thought.
