Friends, if you get downhearted about the way the world is and that might always seems to be right, keep in mind that nothing lasts forever.
The image above portrays an aspect of the might of the Roman Empire, the invincibility of their legions, the spread of their conquests from Britain in the west to Asia Minor in the East.
Yet, they fell and all that is left of what was Rome and its empire are a few ruins here and there in Turkey, in Bath in England, etc. All the rest of the seemingly Eternal Empire has fallen into dust and the illustrious Emperors and their Generals are long gone and largely forgotten.
The same fate has befallen all the other Empires too: the Egyptians, the Persians, the Mongols, the Moors, the British, etc.
And those who today seek to form an Empire based upon military might will, in time, suffer exactly the same fate as the Romans.
Of course if nuclear war destroys the world and leaves the earth as a mirror of the moon then the empire builders will be vanquished too, destroyed by the very weapons which they thought would ensure their invincibility. How ironic!
Men who dream of empires are fools who ignore the lessons of history.
And, to be sure, there is a fool born every minute!

Thanks GoD – NO David – [nothing last forever] hurrah for (the) evolution.
Unfortunately as the ‘Empire’ become increasingly more and more toxic in their way of ‘fighting’ the ‘enemy’ , be it DU and Orange Agent (in Vietnam/Cambodia) I think this world have to unite as soon as possible to confine / counter ‘the Empire’ before it toxicate this worlds living environment to uninhabitability.
Apropos, talking about poisoning the environment:
I watched a film on Presstv on this subject, this morning, it is horrifying to se how those effected is suffering.
72 million liter of chemicals!!!!! spread in Vietnam
“29 Aug 2007 … Approximately 10% of Vietnam was sprayed with 72 million liters of chemicals, of which 66% was Agent Orange. Soon, many people who were …

Do they really ?? It is only until they spot another ‘terrorist’, I think.
Unfortunately US (the Empire spots ‘terrorists’ everywhere.

Though these Empires haves fallen their legacies still lives on in our philosophy, in our laws, in our society as a whole.

John, hopefully, one day, the countries that have employed land mines and depleted uranium and toxic sprays, etc, will be able to be sued by those affected by them. Surely that would be reasonable and just.
Damian, there are things that have survived but the nuts and bolts of these many civilizations have disappeared.
Cheers.

David, as I’m sure you’re aware that a factor in the downfall of the Roman Empire was Christianity among other factors of constant warfare and invasion. So the Roman Empire was changed over time to the Holy Roman Empire and it has never lost it’s legions, this Empire forced the crusades and had all of western Europe fighting these crusades for them, gone was the saying for the Glory of Rome to be replaced by For the Glory of God. Millions have died for the Glory of God at the hands of this church and all who aspire to preach the gospel according to Saul of Tarsus. Then again this Empire of clay stood by and watched the evil of Nazism unfold both in Italy and Germany whilst enjoying a certain degree of immunity whilst their flocks were being decimated. The Holy Roman Empire lives and is still more dangerous than ever.

Kemosobi, it’s an interesting hypothesis, one that I’ll have to bone up on.
I thought that Christianity was in its infancy as the Roman Empire was collapsing and Christians were fed to the lions.

It will be good to see the empire of the United States of America crash and burn, the only bad part is that there are many people living in the US who do not support what the empire is doing and will suffer when it fails. They will probably, in fact are now, suffer much more than the rich and powerful who benefit from the endless wars that are being waged to control the world’s resources.
It can be seen that the US is not as all powerful as it was just a few years ago. It lost in Vietnam, it lost in South America where leftist governments are in power inspite of US attempts to keep rightwing puppets in power and it is easy to see the US failing in Afganistan where it’s puppet president is not behaving in the correct fashion.
It is working class kids who are dying to keep the empire in power, it is middle class families falling into poverty because all the government spending is going to war rather than providing every citizen with the things necessary for a fulfilling life.
We are than brainwashed by the media to keep supporting the very things that are killing us.
I will be glad to see the empire end, but I will mourn the collateral damage it brings to the innocent.

Jeannie, I watched some of Obama’s press conference this morning and I felt sickened by the way he spoke. It was as if he was already the Emperor of the World. He said that America would do this here and that there and the world needed America to lead it and shape it and take all the wrinkles out.
He sounded like a true megalomaniac. The truth is that the world needs warmongering America like a hole in the head.

David,
Emperor Nero first used Christians to be fed to the Lions as entertainment for the Roman Empires Citizens in the 1st century. The martyrdom of those devoured Christians and Saul of Tarsus preaching eventually led to a popular religion that changed the world from dragons, fairies and Mars to Jesus (or man’s interpretation of Jesus). Mind you this took over 300 years. So yes….Christianity was in it’s infancy at the time when the Roman Empire was going down hill and was thought to have worked in a small unified way (Christians accepted Roman traditions e.g.: Slavery) since 35 AD until completely united to form the Roman Catholic Church.
When the new Holy Roman Catholic Empire was formed, the first things done were to pass laws to abandon paganism and make Catholicism the state religion. The churches first act of aggression was war against the Visigoths. Who in kind destroyed the Holy Roman Armies of the north in the mid to late 3rd century.
David the Story of the formation of the Roman Catholic Church is truly fascinating and shows how the church was designed to have the worship of men (Pope, Bishops and preachers). Theses fools had the moral fibre and not Jesus (as he couldn’t speak for himself and it was Saul’s interpretation of Christ that the church followed) Saul of Tarsus is commonly referred to as the 13th Apostle, the one that didn’t exist. This church suppressed any values, morals, religions and science that stood against theirs which laid the foundation for the Crusades (Mohammedan’s ruling the Christian Holy Land) and the Spanish Inquisition to name a few of the churches atrocities.

Yes, Kemosobi, it is interesting the way religious institutions slyly ingratiate themselves into the fabric of society and become kingdoms within kingdoms. They cleverly exploit human gullibility and fear of death.

If the vote for president was held today, a poll result discussed at prisonplanet.com, shows that Americans would equally split their vote between Ron Paul, pro-peace and anti-Empire, and Barack Obama, pro-war, pro-Empire. Boy oh boy.

Yes, this Nation is split. However, I feel we would be less split, I mean, I think we are essentially less split, in terms of deep down beliefs, than we know. The Powers that be, through the medium of mass information and news-points of views- keep people embroiled in ignorance and misunderstanding to the true nature of things. For example: Israeli murder of Palestinians is off of the radar for hundreds of millions of Americans – even though AMERICAN MONEY is what enables Israel to be so mighty and powerful and commit these horrors!

Hi folks,
You seem to be younger than I at 60. 60! I remember clearly being 3.
Anyway . . . give me some help. I think I have “stuff” to say. I want it recorded in a “blog-type” format so I can add to it when I feel the urge.
My biggest concern is that it will blow away someday like a tumbleweed over a sandy, dry prairie. (good image, huh?)
Meaning . . . I want this “blog-type” diary to be here when I’m gone . . . sort of like a memorial. . . like I mattered and had something to say.
How do find a place place to write such a blog? Good help requested . . . heck, ask your friends.

Therese, people are fickle, aren’t they?
Grace, the American people are being treated like mushrooms which grow best in the dark!
Robb, you can open your own blog and go your hardest. Other than that, if you keep a diary on your computer, it can be downloaded to a disc and, later on, handed down to the next generation!

hey FatherMike: you can google free blogs or try eblogger. not sure if it’s .com or .org but
they’re easy to find, write back if you get stuck. good luck with your journal, Kate

To add to the subject ‘nothing lasts forever’ I want to add those two marvellous articles by respectively Fidel C. and John Kozy, if they’ve escaped your attention.

The Insanities of Our Time
By Fidel Castro Ruz
“In just two centuries we have seen the depletion of hydrocarbons that it took nature 400 million years to create. !!!
At the same time, science has developed the capacity to destroy the planet several times over in a matter of hours. The greatest contradiction of our time is the ability of our species to destroy itself, and its inability to govern itself. ”
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article25340.htm
============================================
John Kozy, write about containment of (‘NPT’) nuclear bombs.”
The policy now is to maintain control of the fissionable material needed to make the bombs.
“The United Nations was ostensibly established:
* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
* to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
* to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
* to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
AND FOR THESE ENDS
* to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
* to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
* to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
* to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples. . . .
Obviously, it has failed. But although those words come from the Charter, they were and are sheer propaganda. The organization was formed by World War II’s victorious powers in an attempt to control the world. The Security Council was established in a way that gave those nations absolute control over the organization. Each of the five permanent members of the Council can veto any resolution it disapproves of.

John, thanks for taking the time to make note of the two important links. It’s sad that the U.N. has been so badly manipulated by the U.S. during its sixty-five years of existence.
We need to set up a new U.N., one that no one can manipulate, one that stands up for all countries, not just the big players!
