The Brits take a break from the killing!

Friends, as you would know, Tony Blair, ex-Prime Minister of Britain, has been appearing before an inquiry into the Iraq War.

He has been appearing before a committee chaired by Sir J. Chilcott, one that seeks to examine the reasons why Britain got involved in Bush’s determination to invade Iraq.

During the six hour appearance, Blair presented a confident, some even said ‘smug’ air, and showed that he is a consummate politician, one very skilled in deception and evasion. As he left the inquiry he said, “I have no regrets.”

Of course, even though the WMDs, which were supposed to be the basis of the invasion, were shown not to have existed, Blair stubbornly maintained that Saddam posed a threat to the whole world and, if he hadn’t been deposed, the dictator eventually would’ve threatened every nation in the world with nukes.

Friends, Reuters carried information about the commemoration of the Holocaust today by many nations.

Now I know you are asking yourself which Holocaust they are referring to. Was it the Holocaust that took place during WW1 when millions perished in the mud on the Western Front? Was it the millions of Russians who were killed while driving the Germans back from the gates of Stalingrad?

Was it the number of European citizens killed by the Germans as they over ran Europe? Was it the holocaust caused by Pol Pot, one which killed millions of Cambodian citizens?  Did it refer to the use of atomic bombs on the Japanese citizens by the Americans? What about the Holocausts carried out by Stalin and Mao which killed millions? The answer is no!

To most people the Holocaust, which surely must be the most used word in the English language, only refers to the number of Jews killed by the Germans during WW2. Why this narrow use of the word?

Friends, as if the election of Brown within a year of the disappearance of George W., the Village Idiot, wasn’t enough, now the Supreme Court in America has given the corporate world open slather regarding donations for Presidential and Senate-Congress elections.

Obama, quite rightly, has told the citizens of the U.S. that democracy itself has been undermined by this. How right he is! “This ruling opens the floodgates for an unlimited amount of special interest money into our democracy,” Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address.

“It gives the special interest lobbyists new leverage to spend millions on advertising to persuade elected officials to vote their way — or to punish those who don’t. This ruling strikes at democracy itself,” Obama said, according to Reuters.

In the ruling, the court’s conservative majority said the previous limits had violated corporations’ constitutional right to free speech. What garbage!

This evolved into…

This!

Friends, as a teenager I had a real zest for reading tales of the American Wild West. I just loved the predictable stories of courage, of the battle between good and evil, of the eventual triumph of love and compassion over  greed and skulduggery, the triumph of  the little principled man over those with murder in their hearts.

Gunslingers usually came in two varieties: those to whom no deed was too dark and those who had a few nuggets of goodness and softness sewn into their hearts that eventually caught the undying love of the blond, blue-eyed heroine.

The plots were always much the same: stranger wearing two six guns rides into a conflicted town that had either a crooked Sheriff or a greedy Cattle Baron who was trying to grab hold of all the good land in the area. Or both.

Beautiful widow sees stranger and spurns him as a ‘worthless killer.’  Then a shoot out in the saloon results in the stranger killing the Baron’s drunken son. The stranger rides off but happens to ends up at the widow’s ranch house just as the wicked Cattle Baron is trying to burn it down…

A Haitian boy watches America’s finest take over the Royal Palace.

Friends, the Americans have arrived in Haiti in force.

More than 11,000 15,000 U.S. military personnel are on the ground, on ships offshore or en route.

One can only wonder just what has brought them to the disaster zone in such numbers so quickly.

Are the Yanks simply filled with the milk of human kindness or do they see another opportunity to seize another potential military base, one close to Venezuela?

Time will tell though the bars may be symbolic.

Friends, the photograph above shows an Italian Jewish leader confronting the Pope. He is berating the Pontiff (also called the Holy Father) because, during WW2, the then Pontiff didn’t speak our strongly enough about the horrific actions of the Germans during the period of the Holocaust.

Now this struck me as rather ironic. Here we have a Jewish leader whose brethren in Israel have carried out, over sixty years, one of the most brutal occupations and genocide in history (against the Palestinian people), having the temerity to challenge the leader of the world’s richest Church, one whose congregation live in poverty and whose senior clerics live in luxurious palaces while many others of their priests molest children, etc, over something that happened to Jews, gypsies, handicapped people, Russians, etc,  sixty-five years ago!

“The silence of Pius XII before the Shoah, still hurts because something should have been done,” Pacifici told the pope, using the Hebrew word for the Holocaust.

“Maybe it would not have stopped the death trains, but it would have sent a signal, a word of extreme comfort, of human solidarity, toward those brothers of ours transported to the ovens of Auschwitz,” he said (according to Reuters).

Friends, Obomber has just asked for another 33 billion dollars to supplement the 663 billion dollars already approved for military expenditure during 2010. The following information was gleaned from Wiki:

For the 2010 fiscal year, the president’s base budget of the Department of Defense rose to $533.8 billion. Adding spending on “overseas contingency operations” brings the sum to $663.8 billion.

When the budget was signed into law on October 28, 2009 the final size of the Department of Defense’s budget was $680 billion, $16 billion more than Obama had requested. Admiral Mike McMullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff expected an additional supplemental spending bill, possibly in the range of $40-50 billion, by the Spring of 2010 in order to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Defense-related expenditures outside of the Department of Defense constitute between $216 billion and $361 billion in additional spending, bringing the total for defense spending to between $880 billion and $1.03 trillion in fiscal year 2010.

Now of course a billion dollars is the same as a thousand million dollars. So 1.03 trillion dollars is a lot of rent money and it would certainly pay for a lot of cancer research and it would probably feed most of the world’s starving people for the foreseeable future.

These are some of the professional murderers who don’t care who they kill!

Friends, we live in a world that is filled with war. To many people, the word ‘WAR’ means little or nothing.

They live far away from any war zone. They watch news that has all the unpleasant and hideous realities of war blotted out. They hear about missiles being fired, terrorists being killed and to them it means absolutely nothing. Instead they look at their share portfolio, check how much their armament shares have risen.

Unlike them, this woman knows what war means. She will carry the memory of what war means to her grave. She will think about the life that her dead son might have had if war hadn’t taken him away. She will spend many nights crying but it will change nothing because what war does can’t be undone.

She will also spend many hours cursing the ones who brought war to her country, who destroyed it, who made it a living hell, who not only killed her son but many of her friends and relatives. She will feel hate for the country that led the invasion, that carried out the occupation, that tortured civilians, that blew up wedding parties, that used depleted uranium, etc.

Friends, if you check your dictionary, you’ll find that the United States is supposed to have 50 States plus a few Territories like American Samoa, Porto Rico and Guam. I think this figure is highly dubious.

I suppose it depends how you count things. I mean do you mean States that can elect an American President (States like Texas or Hawaii)? Or do you mean States and/or Nations that are subservient to the military might of the U.S. because they deludedly think that America will save them in the event of a nuclear war (Australia and the U.K. plus some European nations are in this camp)?

Or do you mean States and/or Nations that are receiving conditional aid from the U.S. (conditional aid, like that given to Egypt, is given on the proviso that Egypt does whatever the U.S. and its ugly little brother, Israel, demand.)

Or do you mean States and/or Nations which were invaded by the U.S. long ago, then occupied on a permanent basis (Germany and Japan fall into this category along with Korea)? Or do you mean more recent occupations such as occurred in Iraq and Afghanistan (where oil and gas happen to be located in great abundance and where dubious puppet governments controlled by America now prevail?

Friends, Reuters carries the story today that approval has been given for four more apartment blocks in East Jerusalem. The blocks will be built right next to a Jewish seminary.

Now, as you know, according to International Law, Jews cannot build anything on occupied land. And, of course, as you know, the Israeli Jews care nothing about International Law, International Conventions, U.N. Resolutions or what anyone thinks about anything.

They are a law unto themselves and they enforce their law with their navy, air force, and military which is supplied and armed by the U.S. , that great nation that stands for democracy, human rights and freedom (when it suits their purposes).

About 500,000 Jews live in East Jerusalem and the West bank  among 1.5 million Palestinians and the Israelis are building units and houses and settlements and Jew-only roads as fast as they can. It’s like a malignant cancer spreading throughout the land, a cancer which kills or dispossesses just Palestinians. Very selective, eh?
