Which Tsunami Is Coming Next?

tsunami

Imagine a tidal wave this high!

Friends, if you think about it,  there are many tsunamis that threaten our world at this point in time.

Of course, the most recent tsunami of the oceanic kind struck Samoa just a few weeks ago and caused a great deal of damage and loss of life (183). That kind of tsunami is caused by movement in the many plates which form the earth’s crust. Such movements, if they are large enough, can create waves that reach well over 14 metres in height and they may travel thousands of kilometres at speeds up to 1000 kph.

Of course you’ll all remember the December 26th 2004 tsunami in Sumatra that killed 240,000 people and affected countries as far away as Africa and India.

I guess it would be fair to describe global warming as a tsunami as well, one that affects the world’s climate. Like its oceanic brother, this kind of tsunami impacts on the world’s weather patterns and can create severe storms, hurricanes, and very heavy rain which also bring destruction and loss of life. Britain had a taste of the latter recently as has Australia. Contrarily, accompanying weather related tsunamis are severe droughts which impact negatively on the food supply.

The world is making a half-hearted attempt to deal with the greenhouse gas emissions which are responsible for global warming but the big polluters and the companies which sell the fossil fuels that generate greenhouse gases are engaging in determined foot dragging because they don’t want their profits to decrease even if they are destroying the world.

Of course there is also the tsunami which has been created by the global financial crisis. That tsunami, which is still in progress, has swept across the world and left many people poorer or bankrupt. Billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money has been used to prop up or bailout banks and corporations, the ones that created the financial crisis. We may be coming out of that tsunami although it is still too early to tell!

But there is another tsunami which is gaining momentum too. It’s a tsunami which is generated by militarism and nationalism, a sickness that has afflicted the world since humans became ‘civilized’. Yes, there is a struggle going on in the world between the imperial American Empire, the re-emerging empire of Russia, and the emerging empires of China and India.

This tsunami dwarfs anything that can be created by greenhouse gases or the movement of the plates or poor financial investments because of the nuclear weapons that many nations possess. Should the ambitions of the competing empire builders erupt into war (over resources or strategically important territory or markets), the resultant destruction and loss of life would make the December 26th tsunami look like a ripple on a pond.

We do live in perilous times. Geological forces, weather forces, financial eruptions and the mindless militarism of humans could bring us all undone.

Only the first is unpreventable! There is no excuse for the others.

  1. Grace, I believe the same thing about energy that can’t be created or destroyed. We all have an energy field around us and within us. Energy and frequency studies are fascinating to me.

  2. Adina, your comment about: ‘…a FAIR HONEST DECENT DEMOCRATIC World Government? That IS an illusion,’ rings true to me.

It’s because, as they say: ‘Every Man and Woman have their price,’ and ‘Power corrupts.’ A single World Government will attract every carpetbagger and megalomaniac in the world of that there is no doubt!

  3. Kathy, btw. When I said to John “who do you think will form the World Government? you and Grace and Kathy?” I meant it as an obvious compliment too all that I named.
If only people like you all and David would form a word Government I would be the first to vote and submit to its decisions. I love beautiful people.
And you all are beautiful people.
    We will disagree at time.
But THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT.
    IN DISAGREEMENT WE LEARN!
    FROM EACHOTHER!
In learning we reach consensus, or RESPECTFUL DISAGREEMENT, which is still OK!
It is not all about patterns and submission to it, it is not all about absolute consensus.
It is about sharing, learning, loving, forgiving, understanding.
If only we all realize like you did, like David did, like I did.. how many opinions and solid beliefs we changed across time.. if only we would be a bit more lenient in decreeing absolute truths and expecting others to believe them, if only we used more the good old common sense and Treat thy neighbor as you like to be treated..
    this world would be “paradise”.

  4. Thank you Kathy

Excellent info’s, for all of us , and not least for me in Denmark .

It it really amazing for a country considered the beacon of democracy has come so ‘far’. where thoughtful people like you, who senses something wrong has no choices but to unplug the televion set . Thanks god today we have the internet.

I know the feeling. For me it started back in the nineties when the disintegration of Jugoslavia took place (on open tv screen) with Christina Amanpour, CNN telling the world how things were ‘connected together’.
Never did we hear any voices form the Serbian point of view. with Melosevic(the slaugher from Balgrade / president of Serbia. now like Saddam H., death. also which can be ascribed to the ‘caring’ community of “community international ”

From what you tell, that the charge of a basic pack. ($70 mth.) I am very surprised (if NOT it is incl. a internet connection) IS very expensive, even to the absurd, I think.

On the subject of this I would be very happy if I could offer / help you, [ all other too], to
have/take ‘a look’ from the outside big world] a solution with NO COST (no charge) AT ALL except for buying the equipment, of course, which are not at all expensive.

You should have to know, if you don’t, that those satellites (I talked about )(gratis) you have them too, in your backyard.
You just have to buy a SATELLITE- RECEIVER incl. a antenna (a paraboa) set it all up, and find the satellite which you can do by search / find information on the subject on the internet.

When that’s said I cannot guarantee if the goverment of America are / has been able to SCRAMBLE the channels, but I don’t think so.
Go for it Kathy – before – the better – I wish you luck.

It’s very nice to hear you talking about how you experienceing the ‘fake’ Iran election. it#s exactly true and I give you so much credit for your judgment on that too, thanks god.
One could even suspect that NEDA was a sheer ‘sacrifice for the ‘good’ cause. ‘NEDA’ is to Iran what Iraqi soldiers killing infants in Kuwaiit was to Iraq / Kuwaitee war.

This post has been the very best I’ve read from you Kathy. You are a fantistic person a person America should be very proud of and a wonderful person I’m so proud being my friend.

  5. When we moved we signed up for a Comcast “cable package” that includes tv, phone and internet. We are about to cancel this Comcast service. A hundred channels and nothing to watch! The phone: the only calls we get are the telemarketers that Comcast sold our name to! We can get internet service, elsewhere. We bought the ‘cheap’ package too, for ONLY $70 a month (gulp). That is still big bucks for us and one of the ways we can try to cut back.

The night of “Shock and Aweful” in Iraq, that night, Comcast trucks lined our street as teams of workers quietly fixed all the telephone wires on our street.. they were gone in the morning. It seemed creepy at the time. Turns out.. that it was the same people that had a secret room where all communications were filtered for the CIA at the PacBell building in SF.

I get piss tested randomly at my doctor’s office. I have surrendered all real privacy for the exchange of living in this wonderful country that I LOVE, genuinely.

I feel like I lead a revolution in my own way. I don’t fight. Everything I do is NOT a secret. In doing so, because I comply, they are forced to accept me and this has changed things in favor of humans, I hope. We all do what we can, even in seemingly hopeless situations. Humans are hardwired for hope and possibilities, me thinks.

  6. dear Adina

Like you said, Adina, I do neither like big corporations, big goverments or whatever is BIG, I like small and I also think, (like said of EU as a juggernaut) so is USA a entity too big for survival in a rapidly changing invironent just like the big animal ‘mammoth’ died out thousands of years ago because it was too slow to adapt to the condition of life.

Unfortunaltely, before such big monsters die out they’ll take alot of innocents lifes with it. as we’ve seen.
So – World Goverment ? I don’t know. But how can you otherwise manage all the problems on a ‘sailing’ globe – like a ship on a troubled water.?

I think we should make a database for the hole world population. Then people should be ‘charged’ this way around for what they use of co2 polution etc. and put the money in a treasure to distribute to those who spare. From the premise that’s those who make the polutions do have to pay for it. Not the least in order to make an incentive NOT to pollute / overconsumption which I agree to, is completely in lack of in the today world, but to contrary gives incentives to keep up consuming.

    I LOVE THIS EARTH:
I’m quite convinced that you do what you can, Adina in the daily life of yours to spare the earth and therefore becomes frustrated and mad when it seems like anyone else continue their life as nothing has happend – and that those who have to act IS PEOPLE IT SELF.. and at that I’am quite with out – if people just could wake up to the task and become ‘a member of’ a consumption consienced society.

  7. Adina, flying dandelions in beautiful sunsets is a wonderful image. You have real skill with words and a good imagination.

The satellite route is a very good idea, John. I get many news channels from across the world which helps me to get some sort of balance. The American channels are very selective about what they show and seems to me to be presenting news for mushrooms (they grow in the dark)! P.S. By the way the word is ‘whole’ not ‘hole.’ :)

Grace, you don’t have to storm the barricades to lead a revolution. You have your own quiet way of revolting.

John, I like the term ‘consumption conscienced society’.

N.B. By the way, this comment makes 70! Thanks to everyone who contributed.

I appriciate being noticed on cases like this, (w)hole where there’s no difference in the sound, just like (h)our etc.
Maybe I ought to employ a spell-controller, – but forgive, please – it’s too timeconsuming, and theres’ so much to learn form the (*group) of very knowledgable wonderful people visiting the unique site of yours, it can’t get fast enough..

    cheers

PS. Just to make one example on how to find the right word, I/one have to: [from INFOPEDIAencyclopaedia)

(*group)group [n]number of individuals collectively accumulation, aggregation, assemblage, assembly, association, assortment, band, batch, battery, bevy, body, bunch, bundle, cartel, category, chain, circle, class, clique, clot, club, clump, cluster, clutch, collection, combination, combine, company, conglomerate, congregation, coterie, covey, crew, crowd, faction, formation, gang, gathering, grade, league, lot, mess, organization, pack, parcel, party, passel, platoon, pool, posse, set, shooting match, society, sort, suite, syndicate, troop, trust
