Friends, tomorrow, in Australia, it’s New Years Day. If only I could wake up in a different world, one the opposite to the one I live in.
What would I like to see?
- that war had been banished and all Armed Forces had been disbanded and corporations that manufacture weapons had been closed down and all members of the Armed Forces were receiving counseling to undo their conditioning to kill.
- that greed had been condemned, made a crime, and that the rich had had their wealth and possessions confiscated and redistributed to the poor.
- that all self-serving politicians (is there any other kind) had been sacked and, in their place, were ordinary citizens whose names had been drawn out of a hat, citizens who had three years to serve their nation before they were replaced by another group of citizens.
- that all the rich nations and their corporations had been made responsible for the poor nations and had to feed them and help them to grow their own food and look after their health.
- that all the world’s media had been taken from the media tycoons and placed in the hands of thinking people who were dedicated to telling the truth, not making profits.
- that all humans woke with a new attitude to the planet they live on, that they realized their relationship with nature was not to dominate it or destroy it but to live in harmony with it, the seasons, the life cycle, etc,
- that all humans were filled with caring and compassion for others rather than seeing themselves as being at the centre of the universe, that they saw the commonsense of being part of a community rather than living isolated lives and stomping over people to grab a disproportionate share of the world’s resources.
- that humans had lost the urge to hurt or kill others, to molest their children, to assault their wives and neighbours, to take that which belonged to others.
- that all nations, regardless of their size, only had one vote in the forums of the world, that no nation or small group of nations could dominate the others for profit or strategic advantage.
- that the legal system of the world had been changed so that it didn’t advantage the rich and powerful but advantaged the poor and the dispossessed.
- that the world was filled with great peace and a spirit of love flowed across the world and people felt joy and threw open their doors and rushed into the streets and hugged all those who, like them, had woken to a new world, a new decade, one of hope and compassion…
Friends, if I could make it so, I would.
Happy New Year to everyone!
an idyllic scenario david…………..and i’d like to add some of my own ideas: no violent video games or movies or tv programmes.
happy new year to you and all your guests on this wonderful, caring, sensitive ‘creation’.

Hello David -
Hear! Hear! How about a world in which -for every Rush Limbaugh spewing his crap on the radio – we have ten progressives and liberals to counter his hate and nonsense. A world where Amy Goodman, Glenn Greenwald, Matthew Rothschild, Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Jim Hightower, Thom Hartmann, and Naomi Klein are regularly featured on mainstream media.
Enjoy your New Year “Down Under”, David ,and I am pleased that you no longer have to put up with John Howard as your PM. I hope the coming years with Mr. Rudd are good ones for your country. By the way, any country which has Peter Garrett as an MP is OK! Midnight Oil remains one of my all time favorite bands. They were awesome! I have 8 of their albums and I will never forget that they once rented a long trailer truck and set up the band in front of Exxon in New York City and played a free concert for the people. Peter Garrett screaming out the lyrics to the song “Progress” while the suits looked down from their offices. What a moment!
Best regards,
Bruce

What a beautiful vision of the world you have! How I wish I could wake up tomorrow and it would all be true.
My fear is that things will only get worse in the new year and for many new years to come. How wonderful it would be if we could get rid of the greed and the fear and the hate that poison our world.
Wishing you and yours, and everyone here all good things for the new year!

I agree with every one of your wishes David. Hope you enjoy your new year down under, approx 10 hours before we celebrate it here in the UK.

Coco, I forgot that one. Violent video games are a big no-no!
Bruce, how about a world where people like Russ are locked up, put in a padded cell where they belong?
Jeannie, I fear that we’d have to change human nature to get an idyllic world.
Lucy, you have a good heart. All the best to you.
Have fun!

Happy New year to all of you! I still have 7 hours to go before midnight brings in 2010. Your wishes for the future world are wonderful David. (and Coco’s addition of no more violence in entertainment). Maybe in a world like that my fight or flight state of being could relax and go away! Instead, I remain hyper-vigilent. Don’t want to live this way forever.
Tonight I bought wine for the household. I’m going to try to celebrate with hope in my heart for a better new year. David, best of luck with your treatments. I know treatments will be physically and emotionally hard at times but I believe you will come out healed. Love and peace to all of you!

Hey, Kathy, buying the wine was a good idea. I still think the invention of wine was one of mankind’s best achievements. It softens the harshness of life for a few hours!
Hey, CoyotePrime, thanks for calling by. My best to you and yours for the New Year given that there is a difficult decade ahead.

May the Vision of our collective Good be in our Now moments to help bring balance to this sorely troubled world….Kathy may your calm center be your guide for actions..David you need balance for the possibility of your vision to spread…2010 brings me another year to keep on keepin on as the song says…and each year lets me see things(as there said to be) in a different way…we can’t rule hope and change out but know now it starts within each of us…increase the peace and calmness in our own lives and those of those around us…love Kate
