We’re So Sorry, But…

US Pakistan Afghanistan

Hillary regrets 100 Afghan civilian deaths which include children.

How many civilians have Americans killed since WW2? Millions?

How many ‘sorries’ have they offered? Hundreds?

When does  ‘sorry’ become meaningless?

  1. Losing a pawn in a chess game probably means more emotionally to Hilary Clinton, than the countless Afghanis, Iraqis, and USA soldiers deaths, caused directly by her actions.
She could go to Obama and try to persuade him that dropping bombs on Afghanis will never cause democracy to sprout; or whatever rationale they are pushing this month.

She could command the State Department to work up policy papers that stress education, housing, medical care and subsidized jobs for Afghanis to start a process of atonement for the torture, death, maiming and shredding of family life our war of aggression has caused over the past seven years.
Maybe her famous husband could be put to work to raise funding for Afghan’s reconstruction.

She is in a position of power to achieve miracles in Afghanistan, ending freezing in tents when it’s cold, ending the malnutrition and the diseases that lack of food entails.

Afghans detest foreign occupation, they are a proud people and refuse to tolerate foreigners ruling their country. It is called the graveyard of empire for a reason.

Iraq resists foreign occupation. Iraq is the cradle of civilization and has a long proud history of refusing to submit to occupation.

Hilary could spend her time productively by doing the will of the people, both those who elected Obama and those that the USA occupies by demanding that the US end it’s shameful occupations immediately.

Her consistent, determined objection to occupation would earn her a legacy of love and honor.

Palestine’s history is one of endless series of foreign occupation. Palestinians resist because history taught them that they will always outlast the tyrants, from Romans on down the ages till the modern era of Ottomans, British and now Zionists.

  2. So right, kate. Hilary could be the Oprah of Afghanistan. Extreme home make over. What is up with all the killing that goes on? This must end. Are we that overpopulated that so many people do not matter? Does ‘winning hearts and minds’ even matter anymore? Why are we there anyway? sorry, i only seem to have questions today.

  3. At least that’s better than Madeline Albright’s response when asked about the 500,000 children who had died because of the American embargo of medical supplies to Iraq. She said “We think the price is worth it.”

    Disgusting insensitivity!

  5. One thing that strikes me as ironic is that America claims it is a Christian country yet the Bible says quite clearly that ‘Thou shall not kill.’

It seems, of all the religions, only the Buddhist one actually observes this commandment. The rest of the god-botherers seem to enjoy killing, treat it almost as a sport, a lucrative one at that.

As well, war exposes the racist part of human nature. Some races consider those from other racial groups to be inferior, less than human. Given this situation, saying ‘sorry’ for killing them is an act of profound hypocrisy.

  6. Saying your sorry only really means sometime if you change your actions so that you do not keep doing the thing you are sorry about. It is obvious that the US is not about to change it’s actions so the sorry is meaningless. It has been meaningless since the first time it was uttered.

  7. Reminds me of John Howard during the last federal election campaign where he apologised for an interest rate increase, but he wasn’t sorry. Thankfully he was wiped out of the political spectrum yiiiipppppeeeeee.

  8. Jeannie, the U.S. is like something from the past. Its actions are similar to those of European nations during the 1800′s when they were all trying to create empires.

The concept of an empire, which probably began with the Romans, is anachronistic. Will someone tell the Americans?

Kemosobi, the day Howard was toppled (twice) was a special day in my life!
