They Have Triumphed!
Friends, Fidel Castro has written an article that castigates America for wanting to treat Cuba as if it were a slave colony, a reference to the days when slavery in the U.S. was popular (see Reuters for more details).
Fidel wrote that: Today they (the U.S.) are willing to forgive us if we will resign ourselves to returning to the fold as slaves that, after knowing freedom, will accept again the whip and the yoke.
He also observed that: We are not arsonists as some imagine, but nor are we idiots easily fooled by those who believe the only things important in the world are the laws of the market and the capitalist system of production. There still exist those (Americans) who have the illusion that people can be manipulated like puppets.
Despite the fact that some limited discussions are taking place between Cuba and America, the strangling U.S. embargo on Cuba is still in place and Cuba is still on America’s list as a supporter of terrorism (an American definition of terrorism is: any action, military or economic, by any nation or group which opposes American interests).
This situation of the world’s military superpower dictating to and bullying smaller, sovereign nations is certainly not unusual.
The resolute refusal by Cuba to bow to America has now resulted in many South American nations doing the same thing. Even some smaller nations in Europe are standing up to America and refusing to allow them to have military bases or missile shields on their soil. Hopefully this trend will continue and grow!
The advent of Obama and the rise of anti-American sentiment around the world is actually a good thing. We don’t want the ‘whip and the yoke’ paradigm anymore. Like the Dodo, it has had its day. And we don’t want another corrupt Empire running the world entirely for its own benefit and using military force and/or economic levers to do it.
What we do want is a New World Order that runs the world for the benefit of all its people, that treats all humans as equals, that ensures the world’s resources are shared equally. We also want a world where human potential can be fully explored rather than people being treated merely as pawns in a capitalist game, as unthinking producers and consumers who make a handful of people obscenely wealthy.
Good on Fidel and Raoul Castro. Their stand against the scourge of American imperialism and extreme capitalism is finally paying off!
What great news!

Old Fidel has outlived all the U.S. Presidents who planned his demise oh the irony.
Who could forget the bay of pigs? The Cuban missile crisis? The latter is still etched in my memory, where I lived as a kid was a strategic target you could have fired a shotgun in the streets at the time and hit nothing.Everyone and his dog was home (for those that had them then) glued to the telly waiting for the end of the world as we then knew it.
They were heady days, and old Fidel has had the last laugh on them all, his life is nearly over, but I have no doubt it has been more interesting than all the other wally’s who have the affront to call them selves leaders.

“Me acosa el carapálida que carga sobre mí
sobre mi pueblo libre sobre mi día feliz
me acosa con la espuela, el sable y el arnes
caballería asesina de antes y después
Me acosa el carapálida norteño por el sur,
el este y el oeste, por cada latitud
me acosa el carapálida que ha dividido el sol
en hora de metralla y hora de dolor
La tierra me quiere arrebatar
el agua me quiere arrebatar
el aire me quiere arrebatar
y sólo fuego, y sólo fuego voy a dar
Yo soy mi tierra, mi agua, mi aire, mi fuego.”
Silvio Rodrigues
Sorry David You have to find a such a good translator to understand Silvio’s lyrics but the song is what We(cuban) want to said to the USA

Phill and Catauro, it is a day for celebrations. The underdog has triumphed. Doesn’t happen all that often.

It is good to hear when someone stands up to US bullying. The US simply does not have enough soldiers or guns to controll the entire world, and as it is finding out in Iraq and Afganistan it cannot even control a couple of small countries.
The rest of the world is seeing the US as no longer able to impose it’s will on them and is electing leftist governments and helping the poor instead of the rich. Now if we could only do that here in the US too.
Sadly I don’t see much chance of that happening soon.
The only hope is that if things get bad enough people will wake up and stop blaming liberals or “terrorists” for their problems and look at the rich that controll their government as the source of the problem.

Blaming liberals and terrorist is convenient when your too busy watching baseball and swilling beer and doing important things like that.I always have to laugh(tragicomically speaking) when these events unfold like 911 and people are suprised by them whats so suprising about the western world reaping as it has sown….

Fidel’s articles are regularly on http://www.globalresearch.ca. And they are always to the point!
Phill, you absolutely should read the piece “An Impressive Gesture. Fidel reflects on John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.” The bay of pigs and more, from Fidel’s perspective. Great story and very touching too!
The full text of Fidel’s May 1st piece, “The day of the poor of the world”, from which David is citing, is on that site too. Or go to http://www.granma.cu, “Reflections of Fidel Castro”, in English or Spanish. Very inspiring!

Jeanie, it’s good to hear an American happy to see people standing up to the U.S. of A! I’m sure there are many fine Americans just like you.
Jeff, everyone reaps what they sow. We should have that tattooed on our foreheads at birth!
Ursula, thanks for the link. I wonder why Fidel is not featured on the MSM?

The leaders of Cuba (Fidel and Raoul) are true brothers in arms, during their revolution Fidel told Raoul that there is too much bloodshed and it must stop, so Raoul stopped shooting people and started hanging them instead. Move on a few decades and the executions still happen with ruthless proficiency but most Cuban’s have learned to love or tolerate the socialist regime as it provides free education and healthcare and land planning laws benefit the small farming families than corporate. Cuba now offers FREE medical education for all indigenous peoples around the world, in order for them to go back to their own country and be Doctors that heal their own race. This has raised their standing amongst the world’s indigenous peoples tremendously as 1500 new international indigenous students attend Cuban medical schools every year. Cuban with the help of Venezuela, both being a very low tech countries have designed a satellite frequency jammer that jams American TV and radio propaganda messages from getting into Iran and the Middle east, and the Yanks hate it but can’t do anything but change their frequencies only to be jammed again. These are two examples of standing up for what is right and what can be done to help fellow mankind, but unfortunately they are examples of what goes against the masters and their imperial multinational money making schemes so the Cubans are demonised and left in the fifties for decades, but they have survived and are stronger than they appear.

I was concerned that if America lifted embargos against Cuba, that all the worst of American encroachment would soil a beautiful resilient and mostly organic country. I love that the countries of the South America and Cuba are aligning and I think that is very good for the average person.
What an amazing country America would be now if we could have all co-existed; Natives and Europeans. Most all of the Native Nations were willing to share with the newcomers. There was room enough, if all lived sustainably to co-exist and thrive.
I think both personal autonomy and autonomous countries are crucial for a healthy planet. At this point, having a strong group Southern Nations in alignment in opposition to Western Imperialism is a tremendous step towards progressive aims.
