“A permit, eh? Now what would you like to tell us?”
Friends, Al Jazeera presents us with a startling story today, one that demonstrates just how pathetic humans can be. Briefly, according to the Israeli organization Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), Palestinian patients are increasingly being asked to make an impossible choice: Either to become collaborators (spies) with the Israeli intelligence apparatus – or to remain in Gaza without medical treatment.
According to Hadas Ziv, an Israeli and director of PHR, this choice is given to them as, desperately sick, they try to get a permit to leave Gaza to get better medical treatment either in the West Bank or another country. At the border they are taken to a room and interrogated by Israeli Security Forces for hours and given a stark choice: either collaborate with us or go back to Gaza (if you read the whole report you’ll become sickened like I did)!
The irony is, if they get the permit, they then become suspected collaborators which puts them and their Gaza families in danger and if they don’t, they probably die because there is inadequate medical treatment in Gaza because of the blockade and the damage caused to medical centres by the IDF, etc!
Now lest I be accused of being anti-Semitic, what is going on here I suppose is no worse than many of the barbaric things which happen daily in our world.
I refer to things like torture, the use of radioactive munitions and phosphorous bombs, landmines, keeping prisoners in cages, rendition, the hacking off of limbs, collective punishment, the destruction of whole buildings and towns without regard for the innocent civilians inside, kids starving or dying from easily preventable diseases, cluster bombs, etc.
But it does suggest we humans are still capable of reaching even lower depths of immorality than we already have. There is a sickness inside most humans (particularly males), an evil that, given the right opportunity, will readily appear and flourish (especially if religion or nationalism is involved).
It is this capacity that I fear the most because history is replete with examples of the horrors it can lead to: the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust, Hiroshima, etc.
I try my best to oppose it but, as I do, others in the world are engaging in deplorable acts that suggest to me that most of the human race is sick and destined to self-destruct.
I too despair!
Every time I think that Israel has reached its lowest point they find a new way to act that is so horrible there are no words that can describe it. This is another of those moments.
How can anyone that claims to be civilized make war on the sick?
How can any society support Israel without themselves becoming physically and mentally sick?
Israel is acting like a Nazi!
How can they be stopped?

Israel has special gift for going places too horrible to (nearly) talk about.
Great strategy for a sociopath: do things so horrible no one can bear to utter on their lips. Israel once again has crossed into that murky illegal, immoral, inhumanity. What was the point of Nuerenberg trials and Geneva Conventions? Why did our forebearers bother?
Intelligent Universe, shine the clear light of morning on what the people known as Israel do and please have mercy on the Palestinians.

Out of a world population numbering 6.5oo.ooo.ooo it’s really amazing/frightening how few who really worry about this completely (forgotten?- no) subject on daily bases in Israel/Palestine.
Also – no NEWS (in the west) concerning the incessant, illegal settlements in the Westbank, not to talk about the illegal wall, build on Palestinian land – NOTHING of these , by Israel perpetrated, illegalities/atrocities become NOT ONLY neglected but deliberately left out from daily broadcastings ( public radios etc.) concerning daily atrocities – beyond the realities of war/slaughter , which isn’t possible to suppress .

Jeannie, Grace and John, what enables Israel to do what evil it does is its religious fanaticism. That was what prompted the Catholic Church during the Inquisition.
Another thing that prompts humans to do evil is fanatical ideology. Think of what motivated Mao and Pol Pot and Stalin and Hitler.
A third evil is greed as perfectly represented by capitalism of which America is the ringmaster.
If two of these evils happen to be operating together, then there is mayhem and morality is thrown out of the window!
Religious fanaticism, fanatical ideology and uncontrolled capitalism are destroying our world and us. They are what should be thrown out the window.

Israel & it’s cohorts must see Hamas & Hezbollah as terrorists to ‘justify’ the evil, inhumane policies they direct against them. This practice of visas for collaborating has been reported at least since Dec.08. as an Israeli program, but Fatah has been accused as well of coercing the Egyptians & collaborating with Israel to keep their borders closed to punish Hamas for the audacity of winning that 2006 election.
I guess you could call me obsessed with Palestine/Israel conundrum, I read everything I come across from every type of writer. The sheer pettiness of Israelis is staggering.
A few years ago a Palestinian woman put a show of museum quality together of antique Palestinian garments, handmade, embroidered, some ceremonial (for weddings, etc.) Some would say it was priceless as they were irreplaceable. most ’48 refugees took necessities but thought they’d be back in a month or two.
She toured the US & was taking the garments to Alaska.
Long story short, this collection was lost in the Los Angeles airport and never regained.
No one was accused, just this small article in a magazine about what a sad loss.
Since before 1948 Israel has been denying that there even were people known as Palestinians, Israel has busied itself taking over what it likes of Palestinian culture such as hummus & falafal. In 1948 more than 100 Arab villages were given Hebrew names, many mosques were demolished.
They say people who live in Gaza have a hard time finding where they want to go as all landmarks, trees, buildings, hills have been demolished in the Dec.Jan. assault.
Why worry about these ‘little deaths’ in the midst of thigh deep blood? Because the plan has all been laid out and not deviated from for sixty some years.
Who cares how the Palestinians used to dress? The Israelis obviously, if the Israelis had to validate the Palestinians as human beings instead of the catchall terrorist, maybe just maybe even rabid zionists would have to question this dehumanization program.
When I read your peice about the thefts from the Parthenon sitting in British museums, I was reminded of this little story of the Palestinian woman trying to show USAns that Palestinians were traditional, cultured and not as the Israeli portrayed them as dirty desert hillbillies that had to be dragged kicking & screaming into *civilization.*
And who would steal this collection? Airport workers wouldn’t see anything of value, of course I’m an acknowledged conspiracy therorist, so who benefits? We can see who loses..
