It’s All A Question Of Balance!

Friends, the last series of posts have been rather harrowing. In the midst of such carnage and graphic evidence of the darkness that resides within most humans, it’s easy to lose perspective, to become downhearted, unbalanced.

It’s important to keep in mind that not all humans are evil, that not all humans are savages. And, of course, not all humans are possessed by religious demons which render them insane, blind, violent, cruel.

No, there is in the world beauty, peace, harmony. Granted, you have to look for it but it is there, in dark forests, in quiet rivers, in leafy nooks. I offer you this photograph as evidence. Please take some time to look at it.

Try to imagine that you are the lily and that you’re floating in a pond, that the sun is warm as is the water, that around you insects are buzzing and birds are calling and the breeze is still. Imagine that, in your pond, you are safe, that nothing can harm you, that, as you float weightlessly, you are in complete harmony with nature, the seasons, with yourself.

Look deeper into the photograph. Let the tranquility and beauty of the lily in the pond possess your mind for a few minutes. You have time. Let it slowly replace the worries you carry, the fears, the sadness.

Suddenly, there is only you, and perfect peace.

thank you david for the beautiful picture. your words made me cry. actually, i take comfort each and every morning as soon as i open my door. there waiting for their breakfast are about 20 little sparrows. all lined up on the fence and in the tree, watching and waiting patiently. it brings me great joy and serenity whilst i’m engaged in feeding them. that’s when i feel the most peaceful…………………….

Coco, it’s great that you have your private place of joy and serenity. Everyone needs one in order to survive the chaos that humans have allowed their world to become.

When we left the land and nature and moved to ugly, noisy, artificial, polluted cities, we lost the plot completely.

I believe that the most beautiful things in nature never get the attention and respect that they deserve, for most humans lack the capacity to reflect the nature of their existence.

But in today’s world, according to Bush and Co., there is a terrorist (Arabs, of course) on the verge of taking out the Lilly. The Arabs have no sensitivity or culture. They must be provided with Western values.

Coco – waiting for some grain are Nut Hatches, Chickadees and Mountain Blue Jays.

ken, how lucky you are to have such beautiful birds. there used to be a lot more different varieties here (southern europe) but they don’t appear any more. even the mediterranean magpies have dwindled in number. but i still love the sparrows……….

et al……….have you seen that the bush administration is calling for an end to violence in the m.e.? ha ha ha ha…………….they started it. what a joke………….

“the bush administration is calling for an end to violence in the m.e.”

Call away but do nothing, sounds good on MSN TV.

Not a day goes by that it does not set a new worlds record for Hypocrisy.

In the old European literature it was more often about the Sea Gull, the Raven, the Maggie, and the Swallow. In some regions, the return of the “Schwalbe” was a major event. Sometimes the crow, egret, and the stork.

The German author Adelbert Stifter (19th century) names dozens of birds.
