Divisive Religious Nonsense Like This Must Be Eradicated!
Friends, it’s hard to maintain a sense of optimism at the moment given that the world appears to be collapsing around our ears. It seems that a number of things are all coming together at once, things that can only lead to one of two outcomes: the most likely being our extinction or, less likely, a whole new beginning.
One of the extinction factors is religion. After ten thousand years we humans who like to think of ourselves as intelligent, are still caught up by ridiculous theological fantasies, each brand of which is in serious competition with the others. Even though a conference was held recently between the Catholic Church and Islamic theologians, such talk is a pretense, an illusion. Each religion is vigorously competing for souls and power. And money.
Then there is imperialism, another powerful extinction factor. For ten thousand years the idea that empires are good is still with us. America is coming to the end of its reign not because of the facts that it is being beaten by any militarily superior power but because it became too big for its boots, borrowed too much, extended itself too far and made too many foreign policy blunders. Its poor choice of leaders didn’t help either! Other nations, learning nothing from history, are now eying the world and plotting and planning how they can be the next king of the hill!
Then there is greed, another force which is pushing us towards extinction. For ten thousand years greed has been a driving force in our world both domestically and internationally. Nations have left their borders to go out and rape and pillage then bring home the goodies to fill the coffers of cretinous kings and governments. This trend has been modified somewhat in the last hundred years and now corporations, who exert huge control over many governments, do most of the raping and pillaging (along with America).
Then, as a direct result of greed, we have precipitated global warming.
Though nearly ten thousand years have gone by, it is the results of the industrial revolution during the last 150 years together with unregulated capitalism which has brought about this potential calamity. Along with global warming and the threat of droughts, floods, severe weather events, rising sea levels, etc, we also have serious pollution of the soil, the air and the water caused by capitalist excesses.
But the worst problem is that, in ten thousand years, we humans have not managed to control the savage, barbaric instincts which drive us and neither have we gained enough intelligence either to see the mess we have made of our world or to do something meaningful about it. We’re too busy watching television. The result?
Our world is full of nuclear weapons, warmongering militaristic nations, fiercely competing religions and myopic, self-interested governments. With the financial crisis and global warming adding to tensions and fear it will only take a small act (say for Israel and/or America to attack Iran) to precipitate a conflagration that will engulf us all.
But what if (and it’s a big ‘what if’) we humans accept that we’ve made a mess of things, accept that we must change our world order, one based on the silly notion of competing Nation States, and accept that we must move our monetary and financial system away from its inequality-based, greed-driven manifesto, and accept that we must cooperate rather than fight against each other, and accept that religion is a divisive, exploitative fraud, and accept that some form of equitable World Government that looks after and protects the planet and all the citizens of the world is desirable, and accept that war is ridiculous and that no nation should have arms or nukes?
If we accept these things, then we might be able to sort out our mess and make a new beginning, one that will lead to peace and equality and a world free from poverty, suffering and fear.
If we don’t accept these things and make dramatic changes, the mythical snake in the Garden of Eden will have triumphed and we, primitive savages that we are, will soon become extinct and deservedly so.
The choice is ours!
Isn’t it interesting that those in power who believe that “the time is near” are doing everything in their power to make it so?
Each generation faces something and our “village idiot” has helped us face some nasty times.
The positive cycle may be around the corner yet.
Cheers!

I am afraid the ‘snake’ is live and well and thriving..
i think he s fat, and smiling..
with porcelain veneers on the front teeth to cover the gaps and make his smile perfect!!!!
I think he can tap the 700billion rescue..
no worries, but still with botox between the lines.
well manicured as a metrosexual he is….. oh oh.. no manicure, as no hands, poor snake..
so, as I said..
he has big SUV,
mansion on east and west coast and a penthouse in Manhattan..
a platinum credit card, and he s married to a platinum blonde supermodel with few decades less age-wise and with big big big fake silicon boobs….
she has an apple tattooed on her butt cheek and she only eats sushi freshly shipped from Japan everyday.
well.. the snake is thriving and well.
He couldn’t do better.
P.S. David, your posts always inspire me.. I think I could direct a educational cartoon for grownups , I can picture Mr. modern Snake in my head.. hehehhehehe

Coffee, there are a lot of people who hope it’s the end times. Boy, are they going to be disappointed when they find out that their beliefs have no foundation!
Adina, just love your description of the blonde.

Oh my God. Fresh news.. End of times?
Well, sorry to say told you so..
Look at the first major decision Obama plans to take.
He wants to nominate Treasury Secretary (equivalent of Finance Ministry basically in other countries) guess who? NOBODY else than THE CHIEF of the actual FED!!!!!
OH MY GOD.
I can t believe my ears!!!!!!
Benefit of the doubt would mean , maybe by some perverted logic, Obama thinks that the FED who s a private institution paid to print money for the US, has the US interest very much at heart, and after the contributed to destroy US economy, now they ll try to fix it…
It only gets better by adding that PROVISIONS in the 700 billion bill say that decisions taken by the Secretary of TReasury under that bill ARE NOT QUESTIONABLE BY ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY, BODY, and BY ANY COURT OF LAW.
That means discretionary power, ultimate power, he won t report not even to the congress president court of law.. for his actions.
God bless America.
They need it.
Glossary:
FED: it is a quasi-public (government entity with private components) banking system[1] wikipedia. NB . quasi public???? means basically private. ok?
Secretary Treasury:ecretary of the Treasury is the head of the United States Department of the Treasury, concerned with finance and monetary matters, and, until 2003, some issues of national security and defense. This position in the Federal Government of the United States is analogous to the finance ministers of other nations. Most of the Department’s law enforcement agencies such as the ATF, Customs Service, and Secret Service were reassigned to other Departments in 2003 in conjunction with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. The Secretary is a member of the President’s Cabinet and, since the Clinton years, has sat on the United States National Security Council. The Secretary of the Treasury is fifth in the United States presidential line of succession. N.B. OH M Y GOD..
also… The Chief Financial Officer of the government, the Secretary serves as Chairman Pro Tempore of the President’s Economic Policy Council, Chairman of the Boards and Managing Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds, and as U.S. Governor of the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.” NB. No surprise there…
700 Billion Bill: “”Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.” ” N.B. Oh My God..
Amazing.
Simply amazing

Adina, nothing that America does surprises me anymore!
I think it’s all that Hollywood fantasy influence that creates the problem, you know, an endless diet of large corny epics featuring American superheroes like Arnie and Sylvester and Bruce Willis and Ronald Reagan plus lots of dizzy silicon blondes and car crashes.
It’s unsettling, you know!

Some states that are doing relatively well and are expanding into the American Sphere of influence, like China and India, have based their economies on a system known as “State Capitalism” where the state has substantial influence in the economy and can regulate capitalism.
Also on the topic of religion, religion is a drug that people suffer from. It is the opium of the people. And people have an addiction towards it. I think I will make a post about my own experiences with religion to further explain what I mean.

Ironic, Adina, that when porcelain veneers are fitted, the original tooth is filed down to a triangular point to fit the cap on. Mr. & Ms. Modern actually have these sharp, pointy teeth under their straight, white veneers!
David, and all, I am holding out for 2012 when the Native prophecies say all will go dark and shut down for (5) days. This will cause the religious and ignorant to freak out and die; thus leaving the Planet to the people who can roll with the changes. I can barely believe this is my belief. Is that where we are headed? You are right David in that we seem to have only two choices and only one that will “save” humanity.
I am convinced Religion is the Slavemaster of the masses.
