Reuter’s photo of the Taj Hotel in Mumbai!
Friends, doubtless you, like me, have been following the extraordinary events in India. 125 dead so far and 300 wounded and still no sign that it is going to end anytime soon.
Of course the media is filled with hysteria and Western Governments condemn strongly and the word ‘terrorist’ is being bandied about in hate-filled language. Once again the world is arbitrarily divided into the ‘goodies’ and the ‘baddies’: the ‘goodies’ being the ones who practice the right kind of religion and politics and economics and the ‘baddies’, well they’re simply evil and heathen and subhuman and uncivilized.
I guess the bottom line is that the people involved in the Mumbai attacks are indisputably human beings. They were all born the same way as we were. They were once happy, laughing children like us. So what happened? Why did they turn into killers who are prepared to die for their cause ?
The first question I would ask is: are these terrorists really any different to those who wear uniforms and go to foreign countries and kill civilians using advanced military technology? In Iraq, a million Muslim civilians have been killed by the Americans and British during their phony invasion and subsequent occupation. What about in Palestine where Muslims are being killed and oppressed daily by the militarily powerful Jewish IDF as they have been for sixty years.
Muslims probably get tired of being killed and abused by white, capitalistic Judeo-Christians and, understandably, some want to strike back! Funny thing that. But back to Mumbai. There are a lot of possible reasons why some people in Mumbai are killing others.
On the surface, this may appear to be purely a Hindu-Muslim issue, one that might be related to the border argument over Kashmir. Of course Hindu-Muslim conflicts constantly simmer in India as they have done for a century or more but strangely a Jewish center was also one of the targets. As well, keep in mind that, according to reports, the gunmen were looking for British and American citizens in the luxury hotels where foreigners stay although they indiscriminately killed many Hindu citizens on the streets. And keep in mind that Mumbai is the financial center of India. The plot thickens!
So we appear to have religious differences, racial differences, political differences, economic differences, cultural differences, etc, all swirling around in the bubbling melting pot which is our world, some or all of which may have led to this boil-over in Mumbai.
The underlying problem is that we humans can’t get rid of the divisive, lobotomizing influence of religion. We can’t get rid of the idea that some races are superior to others, that some nations are superior to others. Even in the midst of a global credit crisis and a world food shortage and global warming we can’t get rid of the ridiculous belief that the greed-based capitalist system will bring equality and prosperity to all. We can’t get rid of the absurd notion that war and killing and occupation solves problems. And we can’t get rid of the asinine idea that competition between humans is superior to cooperation and compassion.
So as you are being indoctrinated by the media and Governments with the idea that there are ‘goodies’ and ‘baddies’, keep in mind that in this world there are only humans, humans who are being constantly manipulated by powerful forces, forces led by amoral megalomaniacs, obsessive money-grubbers and a variety of religious fanatics all of whom, without compunction, feed on human gullibility and intellectual weakness for their own selfish ends.
The explanation for what is happening in Mumbai lies in boardrooms, cabinet offices, military bases, news rooms and religious palaces and buildings in America, Britain, Israel, Australia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Europe, Africa etc, etc.
Let he who is without guilt cast the first stone!
After days and weeks of exasperation when thinking about the denial that we see…. denial that we are facing a disastrous climate emergency, the failure of capitalists to take responsibility for the financial disaster that they have caused, and the continuing wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and various parts of Africa…. now this!
It is so depressing!
But I have grandchildren and I need to do all that I can for their sakes. I couldn’t sleep at night if I didn’t.

Jane, what really brings me undone is the knowledge that there are so many decent people in the world who, like you and me, want none of the chaos that the greedy, the violent, the powerful and the unthinking bring to our world!
Yet the fact is that they are in the majority and they call the shots.

Perhaps that is why I live frugally in a regional town and avoid much of the madness… I am also involved in local government… I suppose I am hedging my bets: I am almost self sufficient, but involved in a supportive and relatively healthy community…. i still worry for my grandchildren.

The violence in Mumbai seems shocking, In view of lack of actual leaders everywhere- not fluffed politicians, is this not suprising? That is: uprising with an “s” Here in Thanksgiving land, The reality that the taxpayer’s money was used to save the predatory banks and not the millions of preyed upon taxpayers who are now homeless is beginning to sink in.

Jane’s posts struck me with both hope and profound sadness. Hope by her example of simplicity and self sufficiency. Sadness for her grandchildren – and all of us. I think if she is worried then we all should be.
It reminds me of the t.v. show, “Survivor.” I always watched that show when it first came out. I stopped watching it after a particular episode..
The show: A group of American city folks are dropped on a beach in the middle of paradise, yet with not a single tool, but their own wits to “survive.” The ultimate S’er wins $1MillinUSD
The episode: Everybody on the beach strategizing and forming “cliques”. Only one man actually knew how to survive in the wilderness. An extrememly handsome former navy seal who grew up on a beach and knew how to start a fire, build shelter, catch food, dress wounds, you name it. Well,..one of the cliques, starring future winners Rob& Amber decided the smart guy was too kind and great in helping them – a big a threat, they voted him out before he could even teach Them How To properly Survive! After he left -they all laid around starving and getting mangier of body, mind and spirit. As I said, I was so deeply repulsed by these fools voting the one actual survivor off the Island, I stopped watching. Finding out months later that (suprise!) the scheming popular ones eventually won amidst a “snake-pit” of backstabbers.
Mumbai. It seems like the India equivalent of 9/11 and the symbol of the World Trade Centers falling.
Bush seems to be already gone.
I heard he is planning to use his Presidential Pardon power to pardon himself.
Would you all, please, from the rest of our fair Planet, please come and get him and take him to his jail cell in the Hague now?! Rose petals await your feet..

No different whatsoever, neither think twice about killing innocent civilians. Whether it is shooting them dead or dropping bombs from unmanned drones, the result is the same.

Of all the creatures in the animal kingdom, humans are the only ones where the leaders of the pack use and abuse their kind, the other humans, for their own self-serving designs. You don’t see this among elephants, lions, monkeys, zebras, cattle and others…
There is a far greater affinity of likes and interests between GW Bush&Co and Arab sheiks than there is between GW Bush&Co and the ordinary American people. The only thing that the latter have in common is the English lingo. The same applies to other Nations’ elites and their respective peoples. World elites have formed a nexus of a self-serving cabal whose interests, more often than not, are objectively detrimental to their own ordinary people. The sooner ordinary Americans realize that they have a lot more in common with ordinary Arabs, despite the fact that each speaks a different and strange lingo, the better.
The Mumbai incident and other terrorist acts are just an ugly symptom of the frustrations of the ever increasing divide between the world’s Haves and Have-nots.

Without exception, the cia, fbi, mi6, mossad and others have been involved in every “false flag” operation since WW2. Since 1913, the US government has been falling inexorably, to the elites.
The “Maine” started the Spanish/American conflict and it’s been common knowledge that was an operation by American and Jewish agents. The sinking of the Lusitania was planned and staged by Jewish agents within Germany, leading to it’s fall and the Balfour Agreement(the theft of Palestinian lands). The “Bay of Tonkin” got us into Viet Nam. Gen. Noriega was a paid stooge for the cia and when he went around his handlers back with a shipment of coke, they used him as justification for the slaughter of tens, if not hundreds of poor people in Panama. Most of the world is well aware that the fbi bombed the World Trade Center towers in 1993. And, most of the world knows that the elite in the cia and fbi helped others to bring them down in 2001.
These elites have spent billions of dollars to figure out our psyches, our pack animal proclivities, what electrical, aromatic, sonic and visual stimuli affect us in what way.
So, when men with European looks and habits walk into a hotel and start indiscriminately killing hindus, it gives me cause for re-consideration of what I read in the press.
Here, they’ve focused on the Jews that were killed. (They have the largest and most powerful lobby in the US so they control our media.)
I am inclined to disagree that the elite are the majority. They are the predators. There are always fewer of them than there are sheep.
But, when it comes to the sheeple of this world, well, perhaps Samuel Clemens put it most eloquently…
“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

I love the way this thread is developing. The comments are a delight to read and they bring much insight.
Insipid, your pseudonym is entirely inappropriate. Incisive would be better!
And I use The Lord Of The Flies as my bible.
Cheers to all.

Thanks for the kind remarks, one and all! I am only inspired by the insightful comments I read on this excellent blog.
The pseudonym is from the frustrations I’ve experienced listening and talking with my customers and the biggest mistake I’ve made was thinking that the “average human” wants to evolve past the primitive beasts they are, satisfying their basest of desires.
I have lived 45 years now, witnessed social transitions that abound throughout history. Watched technological transitions that are as astounding to me as the telephone and refrigeration must have been to my grandparents.
Yet, the lessons seem so clear to so few… history is not given the importance it deserves and so we must repeat it again?
Thanks again for the inspiration.

Grace,
“Bush…I heard he is planning to use his Presidential Pardon power to pardon himself.”
It so happens that I’m also planning, after I die, to come back in my next reincarnation as a Terrorist. And my first, inaugural, act of terror will be to shove a stick of dynamite up Bush’s butt. This ought to give him a first hand experience of what TERROR is all about. Then, gracefully, he can PARDON ME, too!

David, I hadn’t checked this site for a couple days. What’s funny about this post and the above quote in particular, is that my good friend and I were having this EXACT conversation before we headed over to the college basketball game in town yesterday. He has authored three books on World War II (the Waffen SS, in particular), and he used that war as the example of exactly what you are saying. Americans get SUCH a sanitized version of that war, in order to continue the story that the Germans were “bad” and the Americans and British “good”: the Germans committed atrocities, the “good guys” didn’t. The truth of the matter is that atrocities were committed on both sides, as is the case in every war, but the leaders can’t have the people knowing stuff like that. This is why there is a constant barrage of pro-America World War II literature (or documentaries or movies) that come out every few years: to keep up the propaganda. And in true Orwellian fashion, whoever controls the past propaganda controls the present and future propaganda as well.

Insipid, humans don’t want to learn from history because it clearly shows that war is ridiculous and achieves nothing. But it does bring power and profit to the victors and that’s all that counts.
Giorgio, could you make that two sticks?
Seventhson, most people are entirely unaware of how profoundly they are indoctrinated. When you point it out to them too often they get angry!
Their anger should be directed at those who indoctrinated them!
Cheers.

“our world is on a downhill path to destruction.” And if there were a history, the launch pad would be identified as 9/11, viz.,“Human Stupidity And Greed”, and the license to the “War on Terror”.
Stupidity: Just too stupid.
Greed: Revenge is not innate. So pretend a government should be worshipped according to the 4th grade dumbing down and don’t upset the ultimate lifestyle, that of the West.
And, agreed, you can’t kill terrorist, by definition, as they usually don’t exist. Semantics out of control.
Like War on Drugs, you can’t kill Druggists. (Semantical confusion.)
“our militant armed forces” as opposed to defensive peacekeepers, the purpose of a military. Good adjective.

Why to the appointees and Obomba always have these huge grins and laughs at the announcements? Well, we know. But are these not serious matters? Should be dead pan like dishonest Abe and US Grant, right?

Ken, I agree with your pov for the most part. With the exception that 9/11/01 was start of all of this.
Don’t forget, george hw bush was a “brother under the skin” skull and bonesman in the 30′s & 40′s. He was a spook for the cia. Appointed head of same in ’72. Was brought into the nixon admin shortly before Watergate and had intimate ties with most members of the crew that got caught. Was picked as vice president by a man who openly despised him. Showed his power to reagan by setting up Hinkley to shoot him. When that failed, reagan became quite a good little lap dog. Was “elected” president. Is good friends with the bin Laden family. He still pulls the strings of his sons.
Even further back, prescott bush, tire salesman and social climber. Married for money and power. Formed alliances with known traitors of the US. Funded hitler’s rise to power and many neo-nazi organizations there-after until his Senate run in ’52 forced him to stop or risk exposure. Helped Allen Dulles fund and start the cia.
The point I am trying to make is that they’ve gotten this far one step at a time, not overnight. They have a goal. They are achieving their goals because we the plebes have none. We, as a people, NEED to have a common goal also. Something keeps us from that…
Religious dichotomies have been the bane of the plebes since time began for us, and it’s time for us to grow up and shed the notion that there is anything after this life! It’s unknowable, so far, untestable, and therefore, myth!
Break that yoke and we the people can move forward.
David, if you would indulge me, I’ve found a blog written by a Muslim man that gives an interesting, balanced look at the attacks on Mumbai.
