Friends, I just watched the V.P. debate. It was unsettling. It was a triumph of style over substance, something that Americans are good at.
It showed a woman who knows very little about anything (but has an engaging personality) appearing to look semi-Vice Presidential. It showed how well she has been coached during the time the media was kept at bay. To her credit, it demonstrates how quickly she can learn to parrot the required answers.
It showed a man who has decades of real experience in economics and foreign policy having to carefully watch what he said for fear he’d be accused of being arrogant or sexist. It showed a man who relentlessly attacked McCain using facts but wasn’t game to tackle Palin head on using known facts about her.
It showed a man who is a professional politician and has learned the tacky trade well pulling his punches while wearing a smile on his face (but not the arrogant smirk that McCain wore for the entirety of the first Presidential debate).
Sarah Palin is dangerous because she doesn’t know that she doesn’t know. She relies on bluster and bullshit and her personality to carry her through. If she sat in the Oval Office she wouldn’t know what to do and would have to do the bidding of others or start guessing. Just like George W Bush.
America can’t afford to get it wrong again but, sadly, there’s no guarantee of that!
contradictions left right and centre!
was there a Teleprompter built into the podium top ???
will her good looks sway some?

She didn’t need one, Heretic! She’d learned her lines well and she answered only those questions she wanted to.
Gullible Americans would’ve been taken in by her skilled television performance.

Too true, David. And could her skirt have been any tighter? (I mean, I know us American women are Hot and all, but) it was obvious they were using every trick up their sleeves. She was more like a cheerleader. One sound-bite after another flowing from her. A Palin V/Presidency is a terrifying prospect. What she said about Iran was mortifying.

I like her. I like Biden as well. I could vote for him as Pres.
I work for a fortune 500 company with just over 20,000 employees doing strategic forecasting so I get to interact with the CEO a lot. Our CEO is as smart as they come and he can barely keep up. Like anybody else he can only focus on one thing at a time. He must trust others to make the bulk of the decisions, and the decisions he makes must be based on trusting the data and advice they give him. Even at this small level the volume decisions and required areas of expertise are over whelming.
From my experience what makes a good CEO or General or President is the ability connect with the people around you regardless of their level in the organization, the ability to keep focused on the mission, the ability to focus others on the mission.
Again, based on my limited experience, it looks like either Palin or Biden have the 3 key abilities.
Remember that Biden voted to invade Iraq – and being a senior member of the Senate had all the inside information. Many democrats are hawkish. I wouldn’t call him hawkish, but he ain’t a dove either…

I think the GOP is dead forever. That is the result of Rove’s genius. He only won any election, because Dems let him control the debate.
You must put the same demands on Obama, as you did on Bush.

Grace, she was attractively packaged but, at her core, there was nothing there!
Q, I would feel much happier with Biden in the White House than Palin. Surely after the Bush experiment Americans can’t afford to put another ignoramus in the Oval Office.
Renegade, you can’t stifle greed! The GOP represents naked greed so it will live forever.
Cheers.

You would have thought that Biden would have enough ammunition to tear Palin apart but as you say, he was in danger of looking sexist or patronising. I didn’t see it but from what i have read he played it safe and she kept to the carefully prepared script. Heard she made some interesting comments about Iran which i will have to try and track down.

If the American public put this women into the White House as anything but a cleaner, it will be an unmitigated disaster.Of course the man who will be constantly at her side, and who has a slightly higher i.q. than George Bush, will make,as IF any help is needed, the U.S. a complete laughing stock.
I am gonna go out on a limb here,I firmly believe the Democrats hope they lose the coming election, they do not want to take the can for what is coming to an unsuspecting public. What better way to down play the catastrophic financial disaster that is growing by the day, then to blame it on Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber?
What a terrible way for a lefty like me to get the last laugh so to speak? I was on to these things that wallow like pigs at a trough in Wall St, thirty years ago. I was accused of being a spy for the K.G.B. and a communist sympathizer, and the politics of envy.
Some of these numb nuts that will get a kick back from the long suffering tax payer in the bail out, will already have bank accounts in Switzerland, the Caymans, etc etc, and this little pick me up, will swell the accounts further.
I bloody despair.

It does make you sick, the way the Royalty of Wealth have taken over where the Royalty of Blood left off, Phill.
They’ve only done so because the peasants are too dumb to see that they are dumb. The irony is that the Royalty of Wealth, because of their insatiable greed, have fouled their own nest.
The day will come when they will be strung up by those who they screwed!

I see the same right wing num nuts are blaming the current financial melt down on the poor as per usual. They can’t blame the unions this time, cos collective bargaining means WOW, they can just afford a house, not a big house mind you.But giving the poor houses to live in, my God they’ll want luxuries like food and clothes next.
And it’s not just the well heeled blaming the poor, even the poor blame the poor!Oh the irony.
Of course the bastards that drive the rollers and buy paintings, the cost of which could by a hospital, know just how dumb the plebs out in the burbs are.
A case in point, three doors down from me there’s a couple on a disability support pension, they had the picture of the candidate representing the liberal party, stuck up on a star picket on their lawn for the last state election.
Little do these retards, sorry no that’s a bit mild, maybe imbeciles, no that doesn’t cut it either, I’m lost can’t find an adjective to fit,.realize, that the members of the great Liberal Party would have them starve, if they thought they could get away with it.
And the rest they say is history.
It’s over David, we might as well don the life jackets, and we can all go down together.
And my good wife wants to know why I drink.
Still despairing.

Biden, a dangerous man!

Remember both parties at the podium were trying to address the “undecided voters.” We’re talking about american citizens with just enough neurons to get to the polls but not enough to know why.
Palin was deliberately coached to throw up a word cloud, like a smoke screen, in order to spackle their tiny brains. Unfortunately she comes off like a call girl from a small town working the city.
Biden was there to play wise old grandpa guiding his family across the prarie.
Palin didn’t stand a chance.

Yours is a very clever, perceptive comment, Pangolin! I hope you’ll call again.

It felt good to vote Libetarian today, almost like rewarding them for being antiwar, pro impeachment, and antibailout.
