Friends, as the election draws near I admit to having real fears about the future of America.
I know from the comments on my blog over the last few years that there is great hope in the hearts of many decent, thinking Americans that the election in eight days will see a real political change following the absolute disaster that is George Bush. There is the same hope in the hearts of many people from many countries around the world, including me.
But whether Obama wins or McCain, using fraud, gets over the line, what difference will it really make? For change to take place there must be a change in the things that motivate Americans. What are those things?
Well, we have religion. Whether it’s Obama or McCain who wins, nothing will change in the evangelical institutions or in the mainstream Churches. They will still continue to spread their superstitious nonsense and capture the minds of the gullible and claim that God blesses America and will reward members of their flock.
What about the economic system? There is real division in America about what economic system is best: a liberal, government-controlled, semi-socialist one or a market-driven, small government, survival of the fittest one (which seems to predominate). Nothing is likely to change there although the world financial crisis might bring about a temporary change in some regulations. But that won’t last long because Big Business, supported by the Media, still pulls the strings of Republican or Democrat politicians and Big Business still wants to do whatever it likes and pursue mega-profits without answering to anyone or caring about environmental damage.
What about the political system? Well, nothing has changed there either. The Constitution, which Bush trampled all over, hasn’t been changed to stop any future President doing the same thing. There are still two parties, the Democrats and the Republicans and they share mutual mistrust but also mutual self-interest. Obama has already talked about stopping Iran and making Jerusalem the capital of Israel while McCain talks about a ‘victory’ in Iraq and says that nuking Iran is still on the table so there is obviously no intention of America retreating to its own backyard and minding its own business for a change.
Then there is the financial elephant in the room. America is bankrupt. It owes more than it has. It operates on credit, the same kind of crazy, risky credit that created the American sub-prime crisis (the one that is bringing down the world’s financial system). America has used and abused the credit concept to drive itself to unsustainable levels (after all, it had to pay for its massive stockpiles of armaments).
The bankers and investment gurus and the Wall Street gamblers thought the credit-driven market would never end. Well, it has. But so what. As soon as money starts to flow, the same spivs and con-men will reappear and the madness of the dollar-chasers will begin again.
Then there are the Zionists. They are still holding positions of power and influence at all levels of American society. They will continue to prosecute the imperialism and fanaticism of Israel using America as a willing bully. Then there are those who believe in America’s Manifest Destiny. And so it goes on and…
I’m sorry to mention these concerns. But to change anything you need to change the things that have caused the problems.
I can’t see any real evidence of this happening. None. Can you?
There is real division in America about what economic system is best: a liberal, government-controlled, semi-socialist one or a market-driven, small government, survival of the fittest one (which seems to predominate).
Though this may be the argument between people who don’t matter (i.e., the electorate), it is really just a distraction. The real issue is the government we do have: A ‘big-government, corporation-controlled, quasi-socialist, kleptocracy. And it is this that everyone hopes can change.

As you have noted, Kvatch, the problems are with the leadership and its total, counterproductive self-interest!

Reply
Yes, it is magnificent!
Speaking of magnificence, why is it that the most mediocre humanoids so often seem to rise to the top, Swan? Bush, Nixon, Blair, Howard, Pol Pot, Mao, Hitler, Stalin…
Reply
David,
Putting Blair in the list with Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, (I would have added Lenin and Hito) is over the top. The UK’s role in today’s matters is small.
I also think it is over the top to include Nixon in the list since he got the US out of Vietnam and had a small impact on the world unless you consider re-opening relations with China after decades to be a small achievement…
LBJ on the other hand invaded Vietnam and I don’t recall Vietnam attacking the U.S. (pre-emptive strike by the U.S.). LBJ also radically escalated the U.S. military (millions) in South East Asia and expanded into nearby nations like Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand when the Viet Cong used borders to slip away and traverse the U.S. military (sounds like the recent Syrian incursion).
Truman killed more people (almost all civilians) with 2 bombs than Bush has killed.

No there is absolutely no evidence that things will change after the election.
The only way that they could change is with a left wing military coup. Now you may laugh but to do so would show some latent racist tendencies. If Germany could have a Stauffenberg and Cuba a Che and Venezuela a Hugo Chavez why couldn’t America have a 21st Century Crazy Horse?
Anyways while there may be no evidence available to the average person that such an event could happen in the next 10 years in America I have some very reliable evidence that it could.
You see I have SETI software on my computer and I have my antenna pointed at a star only 40 light years away. I have intercepted a number of messages between this star intended for their advance party here on earth. It seems that these Kryptonian agents are currently scanning the brains of all the officers and senior ncos in the US military to find those who could lead such a mission. Now some of you may ask to see my raw data and I say politely to you, **** you, this raw data is far to important to share with anyone except….. well I can not even tell you who is important enough to see the raw data. That in itself would reveal a major secret. Needless to say I was visited by Fereshteh yesterday. she brought Omid with her. Now anyone who can understand the sicnificance of that will know what I am talking about.

BLP you never cease to amaze.. for god ‘s sake.. i thought I had issues.. but I have to reconsider, given the evidence. Goodness. have any idea what a star is? obviously you should, if you keep your antenna so straight pointing at it. Before you f..,. anyone who is NOT asking you for some cracko pseudo science fiction data, my goodness, get your mess sorted out. A star is a burning matter.. hardly your Klingonians ,kryptonians, Kleptonians whatever could survive there.. that of course unless you pointed your antenna somewhere else and you mean a planet.. whatever…. be careful where you stick your antenna….might hurt you, or whomever is visiting you to share exclusively with you intergalactic Mega Secrets.

Q, along with Howard, Blair was the one who happily joined Bush in his imperialistic invasions. You may consider imperialism a good thing. I don’t!
The number of civilians killed in Iraq alone are more than a million which is more than Nagasaki and Hiroshima combined.
BLP, I think you should spend less time playing with your antenna!

Adina, I am so glad to see that you are laughing. Maybe some one can lighten you up with the secret Sufi salads.

OK now here is some good if not great news that no one can deny is true. I just read about this minutes ago but people in Australia and New Zealand are probably just waking up so have not seen this yet. Social Democrats have won a landslide election in the Czech Republic.
It was not a full national election but a by election. One third of the seats of the upper house and local elections were at stake. The ruling conservatives lost control of the upper house. That means that a treaty to install a US radar to be used to assist in the destruction of Russian missles
will probably not pass. That means a US nuclear first strike on the Russians has been pushed a little further in to the future. Now that should make anyone smile for the camera.

David,
now when did i ever imply that i support imperialism… i hope your are joking with me!
i’ve heard of huge numbers of deaths in iraq. many times the numbers do not sound logically possible to me. there is a lot of hatred between the arabic peoples – sunni, shia, and kurds. it seems saddam was at least suppressing conflict – except when he killed thousands of kurds.

Reply
BLF, your comment is good news. Now all we have to do is to get America to stop interfering in the affairs of most of the other countries in the world!
Q, why would the numbers not make sense to you? Just the fact that your country won’t count civilian deaths would probably be proof enough for most people!
Cheers!
Reply
Actually our Zionist militarist occupation strategy has contributed to the hatred between Sunni, Shia, and Kurds, and the neocon plan is to divide Iraq — same old divide and conquer plan. The numbers of dead Iraqi due to our invasion, counted by David, are logically possible, although unbearable to comprehend by any USA citizen with a conscience.

Mr. Grayling, I would like you to know that I enjoyed our last conversation that we had on this blog. Now to begin our next chat I would like to start out by asking you a few questions which I hope you can answer. Number one, how many religions are there in the world and how many truly promote violence? Number two, if the U.S. gives up its world police policy, how will it affect you personally? And lastly, number three, how many Americans, do you believe, are unhappy with the way things are being run in America and its constitution?
Mr. Unknown
Reply
Mr Unknown, how many religions? One is already too many!
How many religions promote violence? Buddhism is the only one that seems to promote non-violence and peace. All the others cultivate division and elitism.
Who gave America the right to act as a world policeman in the first place? It takes a certain amount of arrogance for America to elect itself to this position to say nothing of massive military expenditure. If America was deposed I would heave a great sigh of relief and feel much safer.
I believe that a majority of Americans are happy with the status quo. They enjoy being members of the world’s major imperial power and consuming more of the world’s resources than anyone else.
Cheers.

No need to lighten up on stupidity and megalomania. You see? I m proud of myself. Your next comment showed that I managed to bring you down to earth.. In which condition, I m not sure. But I still, achieved the performance, of landing you physically sane, as you can still type on your computer..

Dear Mr. Unknown,
I hope the questions you raised for David are open to answer to other mere participants at this blog. As always, although uninvited, I cannot preclude myself from the pleasures of the intellect.
I am always happy when a fellow American wants to expand his horizon, and asks for real input in order for him to better understand the rest of the world and the impact that America has on the rest of the world, not from his home TV, but through direct interaction with the respective realities *(in your case, asking a forein Citizen David, what is the impact that your country has on him).
So honourable of you to do so. So honorable of you to want to know the other side of the story from direct source..
Now, I do appreciate your tactic as well, although it seems to repeat itself. And I have only a tiny tiny bit of a doubt, which I have to try to clarify.
Are your questions rhetoric in substance but open in appearance?
Well, I hope not, and I still consider you a genuinely interested american, willing to know how his country affects other individual’s reality, in a genuinely serious manner, without trying to actually imply the irrelevance of the respective impact.
As such, I reply :
1. most of religions preach and apply violence, in various levels of subtlety. I have a too high opinion of you, to consider that you may assume Violence must be only physical. As such, I m sure you ll agree with my answer. Do you?
2. I cannot speak for David. As for me, my family resides in an area where the consequence of the American bombing had left high residues of impoverished uranium. our neiboughrs had high “collateral victims” , innocents, die in a “necessary war” , orchestrated and led by your country.. some few years back. That did and does affect us LIVES DAILY. FOR THE TIME TO COME. Cannot speak about other countries, but from what i ve seen, don t worry, there is plenty of evidence. do you disagree?
3. Most of Americans are unhappy with the state of the country. But let me again, go to the level of subtlety which I hope you will be comfortable with. most of the americans will not feel comfortable with: they feel unhappy with their 401K shrinking, with their weak dollar, with the reduction in the SUV s they can buy, with their irresponsible mortgages which did not bake at the fluffyness they expected to profit from, with their lack of Medical, and with the need to eat less than they usually normally do, (the equivalent of 5 times of a normal european meal pro capita)… then they are upset for many many other matters, mostly self oriented. But honestly, I am sure they are able to detach themselves very very fast under the pressure of all the personal “pain” described above, from a child s sufference and need for food to survive tomorrow in Africa.
So .. the world and it s environment is their last American priority. Can you deny that?
Of course.. that selfishness is understandable as long as you all keep it within your country
s borders.
Unfortunately, point 2. made that clear, your country has “no borders” in an outwards perspective, and has very solid borders only when it comes to an “inward perspective”.
Get my message?
Is it clear ?
Can you deny it?
to sustain your country s corporate greed and your expected levels of perofit and benefits, WE the WORLD SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES DAILY.
AS for the comments when they claim China is Bad, china is Bad, and they become worst with their major economic sponsor giving them major support. Again, need to name who s that “Major”?
I hope you ll reply to my questions, please do not switch the subject, and I kindly ask you to enlighten us of your opinion on your own questions too: 1.2.3. with affirmative statements, without questions.. Would be nice to hear what an american thinks.
Kind regards

Adina,
I don’t know that I agree with your statement about religions fostering violence.
I think that governments and churchs twist religion for their purposes and that often includes violence.
The best example that comes to mind is when Jesus was asked about stoneing (sp?) a woman and he suggested the person with no transgressions throw the first stone…
That was clearly a non-violent stance, but it could be twisted into support of violence.
For example: people could say “Jesus said doing physical harm is ok, but you have to have someone pure to do it”. Then they come up with a way to purify the punisher. Or they use a machine. Crappy thinking like that.

Q, please read the complete bible. In the bible it is said that a master can beat his SLAVE. It is said that if the slave is able to walk after three days, the master shall face no concequence. If indeed the slave dies, the master shall be punished.. wow.. It is said that after a war, the conquerers, “sons” of god, can kill all of men and take women and children as slaves. please read the whole bible and do not summarize a whole religion by one jesus statement. Please prove me wrong.
i am sorry i do not usually like to repeat myself.. if you still insist, I have provided the specific chapters and quotes of the Bibble where god adresses his sons and indicates that SLAVERY is condoned and instigated even, and that violence is OK …. if the masters feel it is due..please read the bible .. then come back to me,
Thank you

I thought that churches were religious institutions, Q, and were the holders and spreaders of ‘The Word’.
People of various religions have been killing each other and blessing wars for thousands of years.
Adina, the Bible is such a collection of primitive superstitions, fairy tales and violence I cannot believe that intelligent people would base their lives upon it!

Ms. Adina and Mr. Grayling, America has in fact pursued a policy of isolation, of course this was before President Theodore Roosevelt was elected during the 1800s and 1900s. Now say if America pursued a policy of complete isolation today, which is still possible, what would happen to the rest of the world, and not just keeping out of everyone’s business, but complete and total isolation, no trade or contact with the outside world, absolute nothing, what would happen? I apologize for any delay in answer you questions that you have.
Reply
Unless America occupies centre-stage, Mr Unknown, it can’t survive. That it only has 5% of the world’s population doesn’t worry it a bit and it continues to act as if it had 95%.
And given that it is a trading nation, your speculative question has no validity.
Reply
Mr. Unknown as usual, you do not answer the question.Your own questions. 1.2. 3.
As always, you change the subject and raise another question not at all related to the subject.
You re refusal to address 1.2.3 and turning it into assumption that I suggest complete isolationism is a cheap deviation uncalled for.
Total isolationism of america is not what I have suggested. Total isolationism is very far from what would be preffered, but maybe shades of grey are not available in US , i don t know. I don t think there are only two extremes: how about keeping to your own country jurisdiction and not interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.. without retorting to complete isolationism?
But you exagerrate and divert the matter as always, avoiding your own in capability to reply to your own questions…
I hope you will not further disapoint me, I have excused two or three times your failure to offer answers, and your technique of only raising rethoric questions.. but you become boring and predictable at this point…
Please answer your own 1.2.3.
And if you are not able to honestly answer your own questions, stop raising them.

That good Christians can promote violence, this is done through hypocrisy and slander. There are many forms of violence used against fellow humans. Jesus Christ’s words are golden and serve as moral teachings. However, maybe because he was killed by Romans during violent times, the story of the Bible was written by the winners, in this case the Romans, Christ’s teachings seem to be easily manipulated; and consequently Christian sheep are often led astray by their shepherds. They are socially encouraged to practice intolerance and then are reminded on Sunday that they are sinners for doing so. It’s a perpetual shame spiral.

Simply truthful and well put, thank you Grace.
SHAME SPIRAL is a wonderful metaphor. I simply love it.

The first time I heard about shame spirals, really helped set me free. Shame and guilt are sooo oppressive and debilitating. Really keeps people helpless which makes them angrier and yet so often, anger is not directed at the correct source.
Adina, love is a living gift. It is hard to talk about. I really appreciate your pointing out how in love someone is (from a prior post)and the beauty is that it goes both ways. It is the most liberating experience to have someone love you. To accept the love, to walk around feeling loved..to give love back. I wish this experience for everyone; the world would be the best place. Love & peace : ) grace

I’m sorry Ms. Adina; I read through your last post a bit too quickly and jumped to conclusions about your comment. Allow me to answer my three questions
1) There are 22 major religions in the world (500,000 believers or more) along many other smaller religions. Because there are so many different religions, I can only say that my religion does not promote violence. If I were to go through the lists and research each and every religion other than my own, looking for which ones truly promote violence and post my answers on this blog then I would have enough material to write a book.
2) If America were to give up its world police policy, it would not affect me personally unless I was in the military.
3) I believe that 90% of Americans give or take, are unhappy with the way things are being run in the country and its current direction, however I believe that almost every American is happy with the current constitution which has been in place for about 200 years.
To answer your questions Adina, 1) Because I don’t know the beliefs of other religions other than mine I cannot agree with you, also violence is not only physical, it can also be mental.
2) Because you have family living in areas living in a warzone I have to agree with you, the war does affect you and your family, also, you say that there is uranium left over from American bombings, is your family suffering from radiation sickness, are there American soldiers nearby that they see that are also suffering from radiation sickness. Also what type of uranium is it, because our bodies do contain traces of uranium?
Once again Ms. Adina, I apologize for the switching of subjects in our conversation.
Reply
Mr. Unknown, apologies accepted.
1 you would not agree with me based on the fact that your religion is not violent.
my statement was MOST religions incite to violence (physical, spiritual). That leaves space to exceptions, and the only exceptions I see are Buddhism and Taoism. I do not know your religion, but again, if it is Christian, claimin that it is non violent is self delusion. I can provide you with tones of quotes for the said bible who will make your hairs stand. i m not asking you to share with me what are your personal beliefs, that is a private matter. But unless you are part of the few exceptions quoted above.. hardly can I believe yours is a non violent religion.
2. Oh Mr Unknown, despite the disapointments, I had a higher opinion of you still. Regardless. if you fail to see how the military police atittude is affecting you… then you know not much about your own country taxation, exonomical implications of the war machinery.. and many many others..
It is however not my duty to enlighten you, and sometimes ignorance is bliss. So enjoy your happiness by believing that you not being military makes you unaffected by the world police state…..
3. Now we are going into perverse topics.. like your FDA .. what has not been proven to burn your skin or kill you in 20 minutes is not something harmful. Once again, maybe this propagandistic limited view can make your consciense sleep at night. The fact that the long term effect of something are unknown in specific, does not make it SAFE, especially when it;s use and abuse may have been avoided.
you know what..
we better stop conversing.
I m really bored now. and you do not stand up to the level of integrity and itelligence of a partner worthy to converse with.
I m sure you ll not take this harshly. Life is too short to waste it with obtuse people. Consider me one, to make yourself feel better.
Good sleep Mr Unknown.

Unknown,
Apologies. I fogot to answer your question.
Did I know uranium is present in the human body?
Yes.
I know the human organism has uranium, stronzium, radium, cessium… and the list may go on and on and on. In Infinitesimal quantities… as many other trace elements, including HCl, Arsenic, which we don t go around pouring on the fields.. … heheh
by the way, strontium….
Do you know what Stronzo means?
Both stronzium and Stronzo are also present in the human body, especially some of humans, in higher quantities.. it means a Little piece of Shit.. in Italian…. did you know that?
But NO, me and my family do not like Uranium in significantly higher quantity being spread around artificially just because some bias entity claims that it is not proven it is harmful. it is not proven it isn t harmful either.
And you are indeed boring and predictable, the only thing you do is raise so called self expanatory questions, in which you actually provide people with easy answers yourself. But those answers are to easy indeed to be truthful.
Asking if my family member had suffered of irradiation is a typical rhetoric question, you are so master at…being ironic and a strontium does not do you honour. ..
but that s the best you can do, in lack of definitive and honest answers on serious topics. I m sure intelligent people won t fall for your superficial stratagemes.
You are boring and predictable.
I ll cease to consider your “questions” dignifiable of answers.
Bye bye.
