Is The U.S. Empire Almost Finished?

At the U.N., Iran’s President Ahmadinejad has claimed that the American Empire is nearing its end. Could he be right?

Given the massive debt that America has accrued combined with the over-stretching of its military and the current turbulence in its financial markets (because of lack of proper regulation and oversight and its unabated encouragement and facilitation of mega-greed), it does appear that the Land of the Stars and Stripes is showing signs of falling apart.

Of course the inept stewardship of George W Bush (which exposed the huge deficiences in the American Constitution) has not helped and neither has the continuing follies of American foreign policy, the advent of an oil crisis, the hawkish actions of the Neocons, and the sudden emergence of global warming.

It seems that all these factors are combining to tip America over the edge and into the dustbin of history.

The major questions that face the world are:

- is America in a state of terminal decline?

-  will America, in its death throes, pull the rest of the world down with it?

- and will Ahmadinejad, ironically, become forever known as the prophet of its demise?

Watch this space!

David,

The only way the U.S. could be fairly be blamed for bringing down the rest of the world is to start a nuclear war (which is possible but unprobable).

Any other form of national suffering due to the fall of the U.S. is on the shoulders of those nations that chose to play with the U.S., not the U.S.

Many nations elected by free will to make the U.S. their primary consumer. Many by their own free will loaned money to the U.S. Many by their own free will elected to invest in the U.S.

I could replace the words “free will” with “greed”… To the greedy go the spoils and eventually the blame. Right?

David,

I would say the U.S. is in decline relative to its zenith. But “terminal” seems a bit extreme (possible, but not probable).

I’m certain that NONE, ZERO of the new candidates (China, Russia, India) for title of “The Super Power” are tolerable. Yes, things can be worse than having the U.S. as “The Super Power”.

Q, the idea of a ‘super power’ is anachronistic. This is 2008!

Why do we need a ‘super power’? Why do we need to have one country, one driven purely by self-interest and greed, trying to impose its flawed economic, religious and political ideologies upon the rest of the world using bribery, corruption and military force?

Just asking.

David,

I don’t think we have to have one because it is desireable. I think it just happens. Based on history it seems there is always one…

I mean, when the U.S. does drop to second or third, aren’t number 1 and 2 some pretty big honchos? Since they are likely to be China and Russia with an outside shot for Brazil and India, what are the odds that they won’t wield their power?

Q, surely it doesn’t ‘just happen’ but occurs as a result of our relentless, divisive programming (indoctrination).

Surely, if children were taught that all humans were equal and that all world citizens were entitled to an equal share of the world’s bounty and that war was despicable as was greed and that nationalism was dangerous and divisive as was religion, etc, the world would be a very different place.

The current, flawed paradigm must be changed before we destroy ourselves!

Dear friends, one thing i m afraid of.. no matter how horrendous the world situation is under the current “leadership” may God forbid that China takes over.. believe me. at least the current ones need to maintain a shadow of respectable appearance. Those others.. I keep telling my father, who just like us, prays for a change. Be careful what we re wishing for..

I agree with David: change will never happen in the “leadership”..but in the way we think and educate ourselves as a society.

And the televised interview of Ahmadinejad by by he who calls himself very Jewish, Larry King, who has family enterprises in Israel, was very heavenly and fair, and gives me hope that WWIII will not occur in my lifetime, at least.
