"I love God more than you!"
"Nonsense! I pray six times a day!"
"So what! I pray continuously."
"Rubbish! When do you sleep? My faith in God is my strength!"
"My faith is larger than the universe. God constantly walks by my side!"
"That’s nothing! God speaks to me. In my heart. He is my Shepherd."
"And you’re His crook. He clearly wants me to be President!"
"Over my dead body. I can sing six hymns with all the verses."
"I can recite the whole New Testament!"
"Can’t."
"Can."
UPDATE 17/8/08: Debate? What debate? It was a stage-managed fiasco, a vote-buying exercise put on for the religiously deranged!
It is a sad reflection on the state of current American politics that religion is even mentioned at all in regards to a candidate’s “qualification” for office.
It is an even sadder reflection on the American populace in general that it puts so much emphasis not on a candidate’s experience, intelligence, or his/her support of the Constitution (the one true measure of what the elected President is supposed to be defending) – but on how devout of a religious idealist he or she is.
Religion has no place in politics, and vice versa. This is what the founders feared would happen.

when i moved at the beginning of summer, i changed my voting polling place- and i changed my voter registration to unaffiliated with any party. this is why. or i should say- one of the many, many reasons why. i continue to vote for symbolic reasons- it’s obvious that real votes don’t count.

This pisses me off! Why the hell are they wasting time on ‘faith’?? So many of us could care less about who or what they bow to. Especially when we are non-religious. I can think of a many more pertinent topics to discuss than that. Ridiculous, as usual.

Demon, your last paragraph says it all!
Democracy can’t work while people allow religious beliefs to guide their vote, Betmo!
Annie, like whores with money, politicians will do and say anything for a vote. That they have to cater for the massive group of American Religious Fundamentalists is disgusting. Let the Fundies stick to indoctrinating kids, child molesting, and making money.
Cheers.

David,
Fundies are doing God’s work by following God’s word. I think they apply God’s word ad literam, and then they re saved.
GOD’s WORD. Source Holy Bible.
Exodus 21:20 If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished.
Exodus 21:19 if he (= the slave) gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go UNPUNISHED; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and shall take care of him until he is completely healed?!?!?! …SAY WHAT?
Exodus 21:21 “If, however, he (=the slave) survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken (against the master); for he (=the slave) is his (=the master’s) property.
Hehhehehe sounds to me like a FAIR Code of “Employment” again… and again God condoning slavery.. while ensureing Fair Treatment. I mean if the slave survives the master’s beating, happy ending, no one gets hurt.
what the heck you want more?????
And then Wonder Why Americans go to War against Non Belivers? Bible got the God’s answer to that toooo…
Deuteronomy 20:13-14 God tells the Israelites what they should do with the inhabitants of a conquered city: “Whereas the men must be killed, the women and children are to be taken as the spoils of war.” Presumably that gives the Israelites the green light to sell them into slavery…. and later to beat them as they please, as long as the slaves can still get up two days later.
P.S. Want some more quotes from the Holy Book? Don’t make me started. There are tones of delusional, free will denying, abhorrent “God’s statements” in that book. What a WONDERFUL BASE for a WONDERFUL FAITH.
How you gonna explain that, loving Christians?

The bible can be used to prove almost any proposition, Adina. That people spend their lives trying to live by it is curious.
I was happy to hear Obama talk about ‘Doing God’s work,’ during the farcical Great Debate. And here I thought he was trying to be President.
If he or McCain wants to do ‘God’s work’ and ‘Bear Witness’ then let them join the priesthood.
Cheers.

Well said David.
The bible – as so many fundamentalists and Christians like to forget – was written by MEN. Not God. It is a collection of religious and philisophical writings from thousands of years ago. Does it have some insightful and good lessons in general in it? Yes – love thy neighbor, do unto others, etc. But it also contains some horrible things as well. Why? Because that is the nature of men – one says one thing, another says another, depending on that person’s beliefs and even, possibly, religious zealotry or even psychosis.
Never take what a man has written literally and as indisputable truth. Men are fallible – they make mistakes, have differences of opinions, lie, cheat, and are wrong sometimes. Calling what some men wrote thousands of years ago the “word of God” is blasphemous – if you truly believe in God – and idiotic.
If I wrote a 50 page book describing my personal conversations with God, and what He has personally said to me over the years when I hear his voice – would anyone believe me? No, they would call me a nutjob. But maybe 1000 years from now? Who knows – maybe everyone would add it to the Bible and call it the “Word of God.”

OOps, meant to add great quotes Adina. Just backs up my previous post, thanks for the great examples.

Dear Demonstorm,
Thank You for the feedback. Appreciate it!
As for you writing adenduums to the Bible, I support that, and I m sure your predictions are right. I m also sure your writing will have more taste and more common sense than many of the existing Bible quotes..
Cheers
David, ha ha ha.. i m sure both Cain (biblical name) without the Mc, and OH OH Oh’Bama … would both be great Jesuits ..

George W. shows what happens when you elect a religious nutter to the office of President.
You’d think that Americans would accept that it’s a very dangerous mixture and make changes, wouldn’t you?
Cheers.

Oh gosh. So much hypocrisy is accepted in the USA. Like Shakespeare said, all the world’s a stage….
