Friends, since last November the world has watched in horror the grinding process that is euphemistically called ‘The American Presidential Election’. Yes, for months the hot topic on our television sets has been the battle between the forces of darkness and the forces of…well, darkness.
We have watched nasty debates, endless speeches, reports by billions of ‘experts’, seen graphs and figures that are difficult to figure, heard about delegates and super-delegates ad nauseum (does anyone know the difference?), watched countless exit polls, etc. Quite frankly, we who live in the real world (the one that isn’t manufactured by Hollywood) are bored out of our cotton-pickin’ minds.
The personalities of the three major contenders have been analysed, over-analysed, under-analysed. Their dress sense has been reviewed, their teeth-cleaning examined, their smile-rate has been tabulated, their niceness rated, their nastiness established, their morality scrutinised, and their suitability to be President has been gone over with a fine tooth-comb. The result? Where is Donald Duck, for Christ’s Sake? Why isn’t he here when you need him?
Quite frankly, if Clinton, McCain and Obama are the best that America has to offer the world regarding leadership then I think Donald Duck would leave the trio for dead. Being a cartoon character means he would fit perfectly into the dark, comic theatre that is American politics. Being a duck, he would not be as easily bought as humans are. He can speak better than both George Bush and John McCain for starters. He is a white duck and male so he’ll appeal to the majority of Americans. He’s not married to a philandering spouse and, most importantly, he’s not addicted to small, ankle-biting dogs or to compulsive war-mongering. Yes, folks, Donald Duck should be the next American President.
P.S. Don’t you think that non-Americans should elect the American President? History shows clearly that Americans elect more duds than most other nations combined.
Sometimes twice!
sweet jesus no- they aren’t the best. they are the best funded. it’s different. if we elected the best and brightest- dennis kucinich wouldn’t still be in the house. politics isn’t about leadership- it’s about power and who can amass the most.

Glad to have my worst fears confirmed by an American, Betmo.
The world holds its breath while the outcome is decided. Cheers.
P.S. If Donald is busy, do you know if Mickey Mouse is available?

The job of president of the United States has evolved into a figurehead position and a front for the true ruling classes of America.
As such a competent and progressive leader need not apply.
To gain the post a candidate will need to spend 10s of millions of donated dollars. The job only pays $400,000.00 a year. On the face of it, it is a very bad investment.
The real payback is the access to the public purse. In the United States that means the military industrial complex (wars) and the Federal Reserve Banking System (housing crises).
By controlling access to these two entities the winner can funnel massive amounts of money to their supporters (greatest disparity of wealth in history).
By donating huge amounts of money the powers behind the throne control the actions of the winner to their benifit.
When I was in the Sheriff’s Academy many years ago learning how to investigate a crime we were taught to follow the money. They question you ask yourself is who benefitted from the crime?
If you follow the money in the United States you will find that the MIC and Wall Street firms and banks have been the big winners for the past 30-40 years.
Being a United States citizen I am sensing a discontent growing in the masses. The ruling classes may have gone a bridge too far during this administration in grabbing the golden ring. Too many of the middle class have been negatively affected.
It may take one more term of mismanagement for the discontent to reach the boiling point. But when that point is reached it could be nasty for the ruling classes.
The ruling classes though greedy are not totally naive. It may be they too see the discontent growing and will allow the next president to throw the masses a few more crumbs to keep them from throwing out the bums.

As I have observed my times, David, the scene in America has similarities with that in France prior to their Revolution: corruption, poverty, etc.
I am ever hopeful!
