Al Jazeera provided a great article today, one about Parsely. I don’t mean the green herb but the Reverend Parsely who, by virtue of the fact that he can provide some votes from the Christian right for the Republicans, is associated with McCain or visa versa.

Now the Reverend Parsley, God bless him, who is said to hold services during which people are cured of disease by divine intervention, is in charge of the World Harvest church in Ohio. It has a 12,000 member congregation, a bible college, and a television studio which broadcasts his sermons. From the pulpit he frequently espouses the threat to Christian values posed by gays, liberals and Muslims.

Further, Reverend Parsley, in a book called Silent No More, claims the United States was ordained by God to defeat Islam. In one section, he says: "I do not believe our country can truly fulfil its divine purpose until we understand our historical conflict with Islam…the fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed." What a fruitcake! I bet the American founding fathers would be surprised by that revelation. That wouldn’t be the only viewpoint around that might surprise them either! George talking to God might throw them a bit too.

Now, recently, Obama rightly rejected Reverend Wright’s contentious remarks (though perhaps there was a grain of truth in some of them) but McCain has not refuted Parsley’s comments about Islam and has not tried to distance himself from the minister. To a politician, a vote is a vote after all and most of them will do anything to get a handful.

From a few words contained in a comment that I received today, suddenly I was struck by the thought that America is controlled by people who cannot stop killing. Like serial killers, it’s as if they are driven by a pathological blood lust over which they have no control. And it’s also obvious that many Americans, both Repubs and Democs, either support them or are not greatly fussed by the prospect of continuous war as long as they’re not the ones being killed and America maintains its high standard of living (which, ironically, only applies to some of its citizens).

Now let me stress that this blood lust does not apply to all Americans. Many people who I’ve been involved with over the last two years on my blog and elsewhere are Americans and a finer bunch of people you couldn’t find. They deplore what their leaders are doing and they are at their wit’s end because they don’t seem to be able to stop the direction America is headed in. They’re the ones who hate what’s happening in Iraq then hear Bush and Cheney talking about nuking Iran and whisper, "Please help us to stop the killing."

Their plea, you understand, is to the outside world, not to their elected leaders whom they no longer trust.

America is a country that has been engaged in killing throughout its history. It’s as if there is a penchant within many Americans towards war and destruction. They fought the British, they fought the Red Indians, they fought among themselves (their Civil War and the Wild West), they fought the French, and that was just for starters.

Friends, since my last post I’ve been thinking hard about America and its long-suffering people. I’m convinced there is only one solution: immediately invade and occupy it!

Yes, the rest of the world needs to come together in a mighty Coalition of the Willing and, singing God Bless America, send a huge armada of vessels steaming towards the Brave New World. Its mission: to set the American people free!

They, because of some unforeseen flaws in their Constitution, have suffered a bloodless coup. Yep, since Bush took over he has been running the show over there and using the world’s biggest army to hell-raise all over the place. Hundreds of thousands have been killed. The American people have suffered greatly as a result and have watched  in horror as their country has gone from one that was admired to one that is now hated and feared by many. And they don’t know what to do about it!
